Parents Charged With Toddler’s Death

July 28, 2014

Two Escambia County parents have been charged with  homicide – negligent manslaughter in the death of their son, who went untreated for burns for about two weeks.

Pensacola Police said Christopher Redd and Jennifer Perry failed to seek medical treatment for their two-year old son after he was severely burned by boiling water. He suffered second and third degree burns over more than 40 percent of his body.

The parents told police that the child, Bryson, managed to spill boiling water that was on the stove about two weeks ago. They said Bryson acted like a typical two-year old and they did not seek medical treatment until until Sunday. In the meantime, they had searched burn treatments on the internet and had applied products purchased at local retailers, according to an arrest report. Additional, Perry had received prescription medication for a burn she suffered on her finger, and she said she applied the leftovers to the child.

He died Sunday after being taken to Baptist Hospital.

Both told police they delayed medical treatment because they would not know what story to tell the hospital about the burns, and they were concerned Bryson and their two other children would be removed from the home by the Department of Children and Families.

    CONSIDERING:
“B Taylor, don’t judge, or do you not have any children? I’m not taking up for these people, but if anybody has kids, there are some kids that climb & can get into anything before you know it. What about other family members did they not know about it or see the burns?”

My Number Two Son could have gotten onto the roof at that age — in fact, I think he did by lowering himself from the tree. Yes, kids can hurt themselves, whether or not this one did.

When you ask about the other family members, you are either trying to spread out the blame — as if that makes it okay — or judge unknown people who may or may not have known what was going on, rather than simply accept the fact that the response to the injuries was not enough to save his tortured life and that was a conscious decision by people old enough to know better and legally and morally responsible for caring.

    The poor kid.

    David for better people

For curious: would you let your child suffer from serious burns for days because you’re afraid someone might not believe you?

  4. jkenn on July 30th, 2014 5:09 am

Of course this was deliberately done. If not, why would they be scared to take him to seek treatment? It’s obvious!!!

This is horrible. I have a two year old niece n cannot imagine something like this happening. She’s very rambunctious ready at any point in time to get into anything n everything. I understand accidents happening it’s life. What I don’t understand is the neglect for medical treatment this child should have been given. So before someone starts blasting on here about how it was an accident reread the comments n understand it’s not the accident I’m at a lose of words for but rather the neglect. If she had cream for a burnt finger that should have told her that 40% of a two year old’s body would have been excruciating pain. My bet the mother will roll n maybe tell the truth to get

Can a 2 year old reach the level of a stove to pull a pan of hot water off to spill on him. You would think by the time he would reach the pan he would have felt the heat from the flame if it was gas and pulled away or if it was electric the immediate area would have been hot enough to make him turn back. It really sounds and looks like a deliberate act on one if not both of the adults in this case and to deny him the care he needed is another act to indicate guilt because they didn’t know which story to tell. The truth would have hurt but the boy might have lived and I’m sure the other children would have been taken away after the agency checked out the situation and surroundings.Seeking immediate medical attention might would have saved the boys life. She might have self inflicted the burn on her finger so she could get the medication needed for the boy knowing how much pain she was in having to know the boy was in worse pain. I’m sure there is a jail cell for both of them and a much hotter place in their afterlife. Equal punishment is in store here.

This is so horrible for that innocent child. Breaks my heart. They were so afraid they would lose their meal tickets that they let him suffer horrible pain and death. Just disgusted with society these days.

B Taylor, don’t judge, or do you not have any children? I’m not taking up for these people, but if anybody has kids, there are some kids that climb & can get into anything before you know it. What about other family members did they not know about it or see the burns? This is one of my fears for me, is that I have to turn my back & my kid does something to get burned, because somebody might jump to conclusions & not believe me, some people ask well, where was the parents, well, I say you can’t watch them 24/7, you can do your best, but some kids are curious, & even tho you tell a toddler No, they’re gonna do it anyway, & if you pop them then somebody is always ready to call DCF for abuse, get a life, that’s what’s wrong with people these days cause they can’t discipline their kids in fear that they might get turned in, we’ll I’d rather mine be popped or spanked than to end up like this lil fellow or in prison later, I really don’t know the age of this baby, but even people pop the back of a baby’s hand, when they tell them no & the baby grabs again, it could be for a glass or hot coffee.

I feel so saddened by the painful death of this little guy. I have burned my fingers/arms just on hot pans/oven racks when cooking and it hurt like h*ll for days! Cannot even imagine what this baby went through. I have doubts about this being an accident too. May this child R.I.P, and hopefully their other kids are and stay safe. Not sure which article I read it in, but the family had a history with DCF, and with the new “DCF METHODOLOGY” I fear we will see more kids dying. I am a social worker, but not a fan of DCF these days. Sounds like this kid fell through the cracks.

    Poor kid

Even a sun burn can be very painful. Just think of the pain that baby felt. Lock them up, and pour boiling water on them everyday until they die.

    Disgusting!

  14. B Taylor on July 28th, 2014 8:57 pm

How does a baby so young and small get to a pot of boiling water on a stove?

  15. 429SCJ on July 28th, 2014 8:37 pm

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “let the children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16

Those two should be sent to a bad place for a long time.

  16. Mark on July 28th, 2014 8:16 pm

Good Lord! They didn’t act because they were afraid their other children would be taken away from them, and they lose one child, and will STILL have the others taken away from them!

I’m serious, you should have to pass a test before you can breed.

  17. mick on July 28th, 2014 7:47 pm

From the looks of the mugshots, they are more of looks of we have been found out and caught instead of grief stricken looks. The two better hope and pray that an intense burn for all eternity is not in store for them come judgement time…Oh Lord, bless and keep the child in your loving embrace…

  18. Jaleen on July 28th, 2014 4:52 pm

How could anyone wait two minutes much less TWO WEEKS to get this precious baby help. How he must have suffered……not understanding this at all

  19. Jackie on July 28th, 2014 3:48 pm

    Makes me sick. Just horrible

  20. Makes Sense on July 28th, 2014 3:44 pm

I say lead poisoning at 2700 FPS. For the both of them.

  21. ANDREA on July 28th, 2014 3:33 pm

This is a sad and sickening situation. My heart aches for the suffering that this baby endured. I also pray for the ER staff at Baptist Hospital that provided care for this child and attempted to save his little life… they have all been profoundly affected by this tragedy.

  22. Justice on July 28th, 2014 3:05 pm

Thankfully, this child is safely in the arms of Jesus, feeling only love and joy! The memories of such horrid treatment have been wiped away. He is safe and for all eternity he will run and play and be loved like he never was here on this sad earth.
One day there will be a day of judgment for those negligent parents. And it will not only be here before a judge but also before God Almighty!

  23. haley on July 28th, 2014 2:56 pm

I don’t get it. That poor baby. Putting that baby through sheer hell. Getting a small burn is painful enough even for an adult. Ignorant ppl such as this couple make me sick. This sickens me.

  24. Carl on July 28th, 2014 2:38 pm

So, she got a prescription for her finger burn, and let that poor baby die. Repulsive un humane beings.

  25. Sm on July 28th, 2014 2:35 pm

    Ok so you didn’t want to take him to the hospital bc you were afraid they would remove him and your two other children from your home??? So now, your son that depends on YOU to take care of him, has been permanently removed from your home! That makes way more sense doesn’t it?! {insert sarcasm}
Your babies depend on you to take care of them and yes I know accidents happen, I am a mom too, but when they do happen you seek medical attention to make sure they’re taken care of! This just makes me so mad as a parent!

  26. emschick on July 28th, 2014 2:27 pm

So she sought treatment for a burn on her finger but didn’t have her child treated for burns that covered 40% of his body? Sounds more like a case of the child being burned with boiling water by one or both of the parents. I’ve seen a lot in my career and crap like this disgusts me. I’m with “boiling mad”..an eye for an eye.

  27. Seriously on July 28th, 2014 1:22 pm

What is wrong with People. I don’t understand how any parent can be so ignorant to what happen. Your Baby just got burnt by BOILING WATER and you don’t seek medical attention. REALLY. Some people make me SICK!

  28. good grief on July 28th, 2014 1:04 pm

How did she get the burn on her finger??? That poor sweet baby. He was 2 for heavens sake!!!

  29. Pops on July 28th, 2014 12:59 pm

“they would not know what story to tell the hospital about the burns”

How about the truth? That baby might still be alive had they chosen the correct route.

  30. Boiling mad on July 28th, 2014 12:56 pm

Eye for an eye in this case!!!

  31. fhg on July 28th, 2014 12:54 pm

Can you imagine the agony that baby must have been in? Sick to my stomach
