Teen Girl: Men With Shotguns Were Banging At Family’s Backdoor
June 24, 2014
A family near McDavid is warning others to be on the look out today after their teenage daughter came face to face with two men armed with shotguns at the family’s backdoor last night.
The incident happened about 8:20 p.m. on North Century Boulevard near West Bogia Road. The family’s 15-year old daughter said she looked outside through their window blinds to see two men banging at their backdoor with shotguns in their hands.
The men, described as appearing to be of Middle Eastern descent, saw the girl; both men then fled in a newer model extended cab white pickup truck. They were dressed in all black with black ball caps. One was chubby with a beard and longer hair, and one was clean cut.
The girl grabbed a firearm, locked herself in a bathroom and called for help. She was not injured. Family members said they believe the men were out to break into the home.
The incident is under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

that’s why you train your children how to handle a firearm if need be.put yourself in a safe place and call the police GOOD JOB
Great job to parents, great job to would be victim . God protect the next family they visit.
Warning thieves on the prowl!!! A truck matching that discription pulled into my front yard about a week ago but made a hasty retreat when I came out of my shop. I realized I was the only person at home and my truck was parked behind the house out of sight of the road. They probably thought no one was home. Just another case of people up to no good. Thankful the girl did not panic.
“Warning shots are a waste of ammo.”
-Any real United States gun owner
GREAT JOB young lady. She reacted more intelligently than some that posted. She made note of their ethnic group, clothing, physical description, type and number of weapons, color and style of vehicle, grabbed a firearm, found a safe location and called for help. Sounds TEXTBOOK to me. Perhaps she should teach a class locally. Not only for kids, but adults as well. I would love to have you for a neighbor. You folks did an outstanding raising that courageous teen.
Lisa – Nobody, teen or whatever, is required to fire a “Warning Shot”. That is now, just an option that has been approved by the Legislature and signed into law. Previously it was a violation of law to show your firearm as a threat or to fire a warning shot. Now, it is not, if the situation calls for it. If someone, regardless of age, feels there is a threat of Grave Bodily Harm or Death, they can defend themselves as needed to stop the threat. Personally, I would not advise anyone to shoot at someones tires or any other suggestion such as that. If the person is not actively threatening someone, then do not fire at them. Especially if they are retreating from the area. If you do, then you become the aggressor and can be charged. Personally…I feel the warning shot bill is a mistake, but that is the way the Lawmakers want it to be.
Teen’s Momma – Congrats to the both of you for training your children the right way. If taught firearms safety and use, at a young age, it offered them protection and takes away the curiosity of firearms. It is great that this turned out the way it did. It is still hard for me to understand why Thugs want to go after homes in the country…considering 99.9% of them are armed and all members of the family normally shoot! Smart Girl you have raised…and you should be proud!
It’s sad to see ppl becoming more and more desparate. In the last week I have heard of at least three shootings. Killing someone is a scar that with forever be attached to your soul.I don’t want my children growing up with the mentality ” it’s them or me” . But as a parent that has firearms and enjoys hunting, my childRen will know proper use for using firearms and protecting them selfs. GREAT JOB. To these parents for teaching there child to arm herself safely. Only fire if necessary.
NOW…The men who tried to break in…are just dumb. In this neck of the woods breaking in is asking to get shot. Rarely do ppl live out here and not carry firearms . I hope they are caught.
@CW & Just Me
1st-It wasn’t dark outside. It was right around 8:00. 2nd-she got a good look at them standing behind the house as they were standing there waiting for someone to come to the door. They kept watch looking from left to right and as the one man proceeded to come back up the steps he saw her looking at them through the blinds. Her description was “Afghanistan” type men. The deputy said “Middle Eastern” decent. They were not African American and not Mexican.
It scares me to think of what might have happened if they didn’t see her through the blinds or if she had opened the door. Either way, they had guns. She has been handling guns since she was 4. She knows what a shotgun is and that is what she said the both had. I am very thankful that they chose not to go through with whatever they were wanting to do. God protected her and I am so very thankful.
CW: Are you really asking “what kind of robbers bring shotguns?” You obviously do not watch the news.
Her account of what happened is exactly what happened. I am very proud of her for making as many mental notes as she could all while being frightened out of her mind. Way to go Baby!!
Thanks for the reply Lisa.
You said: ”
I’ve also told her, if she can shoot the tires out, from a window, without shooting into the vehicle, to do so ”
You then said “I never said, to shoot as they were leaving”.
So you’re telling her to shoot the tires out of the bad guys’ vehicle as they’re arriving?
Nevermind the flawed logic. The point is to only shoot to kill and to only do it when lives are seriously threatened.
My door would have had a hole in it from my shotgun.
CW, people that would break into country homes, to protect themselves, while doing wrong, you should have already heard that anybody who breaks into a home out in the country might get shot, well, to me, they knew where they were, so they also knew they were totally in the wrong.
Kris, I never said, to shoot as they were leaving, if they’re banging on her door, with a gun, they deserve to be shot, you totally chose to miss my point, although, I will take yours with a grain of salt, we don’t have AR-15’s, but teenage girls don’t get angry when people are trying to get in their house, they’re scared, but as for killing a petty thief or cat burglar, are you gonna wait until they shoot & ask ?’s before you shoot? I think not, no, I didn’t take it as a scolding, I took it as you don’t have any kids or have ever been a kid, they don’t have any business stealing from anybody, they have choices. Last thought for you, 2 men, 2 guns & your a teenage girl, but one of my ?’s is why does people think criminals shouldn’t be shot, but allowed to just sit in jail, I’m like other people, if these punks start getting shot, they’d really think about breaking in, just me though, or I guess the girls can sit in straight aim for door & when they break in, the girl could shoot then, that way she really wouldn’t miss, I don’t want my kids to kill anybody, but I don’t want them harmed either
I feel the girl did exactly right. Although I know laws are different than our own opinions, I figure if a person puts themselves in a position to get shot than they deserve what they get. They should lose all rights to be protected by the law when they choose to break it. Any criminal’s rights should be null and void when they cross that line. Early gun safety and education for our children triumphs over ignorance. Our children being able to protect themselves in situations such as this comes from that education. We have our guns locked and loaded at all times.Someone breaks in this house there will be no warning shot. End of story and end of theirs. Sorry if that comes off with a scolding tone, but I am just trying to convey the seriousness of criminal activity being a bad idea and the possibility that if you engage in such activity you have the great possibility of getting shot. Perhaps multiple times.
I am glad the girl is safe first off..but I have to agree with comment below. Story seems a bit strange to me. If someone is going to rob someones house and are armed with a shotgun, then obviously they are looking for an encounter with someone or something and are planning on using it.
Lisa – That is horrible advice to give your daughter. If she shoots out the tires of a fleeing vehicle that would be negligent discharge of a firearm. And if the vehicle wrecked as a result, you would both be held criminally and/or civilly liable. You can not shoot fleeing people or shoot at them.
Believe me, I can see how it may be tempting, but always need to keep the law in mind. Believe me, your use of a firearm in anger will be investigated.
And to answer your warning shot question, your daughter being a “teenage girl” has no impact on her obligation, or lack thereof, to lick off a wild warning shot without nary a care for where that bullet will disperse it’s energy. And I think you can tell from that statement how I feel about warning shots in general. A gun is to be used at the last moment before somebody realistically and physically harms (some would even add in “critically harms”) you or am innocent person.
Sorry if this comes off with a scolding tone, not my intention if so. I’m just trying to convey the seriousness involved in responsible firearm ownership. Not only is there the possibility of someone being caged for the several years, your family could lose all their assets. And then there’s morality of it all, we could possibly be mortally wounding a person who wanted to steal some stuff but ran away as soon as they realized the homeowners had firearms. I wouldn’t want to kill a petty thief who is just stealing to support his habit, nor is my wish to kill professional cat burglars. I would only resort to shooting if my safety was in real lethal danger.
This is just coming from one of those weirdo gun nuts with an AR-15 though, so take it with a grain of salt…
I say good job to the Young lady your dad taught you well.My dad also Taught me and my sister at a young age to shoot
I would like to say something to the girl and especially her parents, “GREAT JOB!!!” She grabbed the gun, then called the law…. Parenting done right guys, apparently yall taught her well and taught her right!!!
Great job kid! Everyone should teach their kids how to operate a firearm (rifle, handgun and shotgun).
Major props to this mom and dad for teaching her kid right!
This should be instilled in the blood if every american young and old. In the US, its natural instinct on how to use and operate a firearm under pressure. It is the very thing that separates us from others.
Funny part is, I bet she beats these two men in a gun battle any day of the week!
Fat criminals/terrorists will lose every time!
Another win for kids and another win for the USA!
How could she tell if they were Middle Eastern descent if it was dark outside? And what kind of robbers bring shotguns? Story seems a little strange to me.
One of my girls, is taking the Outdoor Ed. Course, through FLVS, this summer, it will count as her online course, an 1/2 credit for P.E., plus when she passes it, she will receive her Hunter Safety Certificate & her Boater Safety License, all online, without going back & forth to P’Cola.
My husband showed our daughter where he kept the shells to one of the guns, Sat., she’s a good shot, too, I’ve also told her, if she can shoot the tires out, from a window, without shooting into the vehicle, to do so, they’ll be sure to locate them then, but my ? has been since the warning shot thing, does a teenage girl, have to give a warning shot, I wouldn’t think so, but I told her, we’d cross that bridge later.
I am very proud of my daughter. She did all the right things even under pressure. Her daddy has taught all of our children how to use guns properly and gun safety is his number one concern. We have taught them how to protect themselves at a very young age.
I am so very thankful that the Lord protected her and that they left.
Now, we need to find them which is like looking for a needle in a hay stack, I know.
Looks like we are all on the same gun page. Might be an idea for those wanting to break in to find another county. Skeet shooting is like a hobby and every kid should learn – right after their gun safety course.
Yeah breaking in around this area is like playing Russian Roulette, eventually you’re gonna get shot. Anyone breaking in out here should be on Stupid Criminals.
Smart girl, and it was AWESOME that she armed herself! This world needs more young women who know how to protect themselves!
My GOD what is the world coming to ? I glad the girl was not harmed ! If that was my daughter I would not sleep until I found them ! GOD help them when I did find them ! Do you think I will ever give up my guns ! Even if you do take my rights to have guns , I promise I will have one some where ! I probably want shoot them ! I just make them wish they were died ! You can fool with me but don’t fool with my children or grand children ! I will hurt you ! sincerely , Cathy

@ C – “Why on earth would someone think its a good idea to attempt to break into a house in Bogia”? They ain’t from around here!
Use the 12 gauge!
She wouldn’t miss I assure you! Better be glad they fled!
WOW. Smart kid. I am glad she is okay. I agree we need to protect our gun laws. The president and other politicians think we need to make the laws stricter. WRONG…..most of these guns found on these crooks and murderers are bought illegally on the streets or stolen.
Alot of game animals have lost their lives to the business end of that young ladys gun! Those dudes most definitely picked the wrong house! Why on earth would someone think its a good idea to attempt to break into a house in Bogia. They better take that kind of crime somewhere a little more liberal. Us country folks believe in the 2nd amendment and we exercise it!!
I know that teenage girl’s dad. Believe me. She can shoot! Those men picked the WRONG HOUSE.
I agree with Kane. I also think one reason that we have fewer home invasions out here in this area is that many people here are armed and know how to defend themselves, even if they are young or old, male or female. I am so glad the young lady is OK!
This is why it is important to protect gun rights in our great country. Those criminals are going to get the guns, they don’t have to pass background and psych tests. They steal them or buy them illegally. Americans need to wake up and realize that the biggest difference between us and the rest of the world is the fact that so many of our citizens own firearms, that’s is one thing keeping other countries from invading us.
As young as she is, she did a smart thing.
Hoping they will find their next house with a grown man or womaan with a loaded shotgun.
