New Atmore Walmart To Open Aug 6

June 20, 2014

Construction is nearly complete on the area’s newest Walmart store in Atmore, and an opening date of August 6 has been announced.

The 70,000 square foot store at 911 North Main Street will include a full line of groceries and a wide assortment of merchandise.

“Now that major construction is done, it’s great to get in the store and start getting it set for opening,” said store manager Joe Ferguson. “I’m proud of all the work the associates have done and we’re all looking forward to opening the doors and getting to know our new neighbors.”

Employees are in the process of setting up shelving and stocking the store in preparation for the opening. On Thursday, construction crews were also busy adding turn lanes on North Main Street for the store.

@Blessed, good point, most eloquently said!

@Concerned said “pit bull fighting in the streets” across from new Atmore Walmart location. If you know this for a fact, have you reported it? If it keeps happening, keep reporting it. Heck, contact Alabama humane groups. Contact the media. I’ve seen local law enforcement in action assisting with capturing a dog on the run. They do care!! Dog fighting, or owning, training dogs to engage in dog fighting is a Class C felony.. It’s also a class C felony to be a spectator at dogfights.

Before any big corporation opens a business, they study the area. I imagine Walmart saw value in this location and if area crime impacts business, resources should be dedicated to cleaning up the problem. It’s personal choice that brings someone to any business at any location in the wee hours of the morning or late at night. Convenient, maybe, but still a choice. If it’s a safety problem, go another time or go armed with whatever is legal. Be prepared for the opportunistic few. Sadly, it isn’t our grandparents’ world anymore. I’ve heard warnings about the Hwy 29 and Mobile Hwy Walmarts in Pensacola, too, from “locals”..

    >I’m pretty sure this WalMart is not a 24/7 operation.

According to Walmart Corporate, it is a 24/7 store.

I’m pretty sure this WalMart is not a 24/7 operation. Regarding the potential for crime, I don’t get it. There’s a huge cemetery on one side and Atmore Realty on the other side and a church across the street. The crime would be driving to Brewton, Bay Minette, or Ensley when there’s a perfectly good WalMart right here.

The City of Atmore invested itself in Rivercane development and spends an untold amount of money on the project….why didn’t they build it there? Had it been built there it would have helped pay off the Rivercane note and all of the strip mall businesses that follow Walmart would have followed.
Had anyone heard any explanation of why it was built at the North Main site? It’s odd that local newspapers in Atmore didn’t address this issue.

24/7, this should prove interesting to observe.

A dangerous area for the weak and unsuspecting, especially in the small A.M. hours.

    >>I would like to know how late it will be open?

    24/7

I personally am looking forward to shopping there, tired of driving into P’Cola. Don’t have a huge issue with one being built in Atmore, but the location could have been better thought out.

As far as the little specialty businesses go, if someone is interested in something they exclusively sell at those types of businesses, that cannot be purchased elsewhere, I would imagine they will still get the same amount of business as before.

Am wondering though, if they will be employing parking lot security like many other Walmarts do?

I have to agree with comments above. 2 reasons NOT to go to this store.

    Bad location of town

I will not pay taxes on groceries when Fl. is only a few miles away.

wish it could have been built about 4 miles further south in florida where we
would not have to pay taxes on grocery

Oh great! Now the little man will start suffering around atmore.

I hope this business does well; it being a Walmart, I’m sure it will. I personally won’t be going there without my husband for the fact to where it is located. To me, the location is very worst for safety concerns. Right across the highway and in the near area is a ‘rough’ neighborhood with drugs, pit bull fighting in the streets and other violent crimes. Sooner or later, robbery and purse snatching will spill over into the new stores parking lot. I pray I’m wrong…. I just won’t subject myself to the dangers. Brewton isn’t that far of a drive.
