Groundbreaking Held For New Escambia County 4-H Center Building
June 14, 2014
A groundbreaking was held Friday afternoon for the new Langley Bell 4-H Center Building on Stefani Road, next to the Escambia County Extension Service.
In 2012, the children and teens on the 4-H County Council voted to sell their 240 acre Langley Bell 4-H Center to Navy Federal Credit Union. Navy Federal paid $3.6 million for the property next to the credit union’s campus in Beulah, and the Escambia County Commission agreed to construct a new 4-H Center on Stefani Road.
The new 4-H Center will be a single story building just under 10,000 square feet that will include a multi-purpose room/auditorium with stage, kitchen, offices, reception area, life skills room, science room with wet lab, volunteer room with technology lab, county council, club meeting room and storage.
Escambia County also purchased about 108 acres on and near Chalker Road in Molino to house the 4-H’s animal science and outdoor education programs with reimbursement to come from the Escambia County 4-H Foundation. An open house is being held at the property today from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with free hotdogs and hamburgers while they last and property tours. The property entrance is located at 5600 Chalker Road in Molino.

jeeperman; you have your facts wrong. IFAS, Pam Allen, hand selected and set up the foundation thru extension guidelines. BOCC has little control over that body.
Many years ago there was more local control, but not now.
No 4H funds are currently scheduled to be used on the new building. It is L.O.S.T. funds from sales taxes!
Origionally BOCC was trustee o0f 4H activities with the 4H boys council. At some point back in time IFAS took responsibility. BOCC has lately shown much leadership in demanding certain actions be adhered to.Some is behind the scenes and some is ongoing!
Excusey………..
BOCC are merely trustees for the Escambia County Council of 4H Clubs.
Which does a lot of money spending decisions that involve money going to and from the 4H Foundation.
Just look it up in the BOCC meeting minutes at the county clerks website.
And why are 4H Foundation meetings posted on the county website?
Jeeperman,
That is not true at all. The CCs have nothing to do with the foundation other than Wilson being on it. They were trustees of the LB camp. Although I do agree with them needing to grow a backbone.
Mr. Lamb,
The BOCC are trustees for the local 4H Foundation.
IFAS has their hands in the local 4H Foundation because the BOCC allows.
If BOCC has no backbone to instruct IFAS on how they want things run, then the BOCC is complicit in what they allow IFAs to get away with.
To include misuse of local 4H funds to build an office building for a state agency (IFAS).
c.w. I dont think that the deceivers were the BCC. It was deception by IFAS an d local extension and is still ongoing in a different way. Steven Barry ovrsaw the efforts and helped spearhead the land purchase, which is not my first choice, but wikk have to suffice. I talked with Grover many times too and I think Grover and the rest of the BCC got our message and some behind the scene efforts caused IFAS to come around. Time will tell if IFAS got the whole message and will use the new location as they promised to do when they were pushing Cottage Hill State Park.
ALL activities they pushed at CHSP ca n a nd must be done at the new land site.
ossibility of making a pond/lake around the “bog” and rope courses are still needed.
I, for one, do not want to hear that the land cannot be used because…….
It is not the BCC to be voted out. It is Escambia IFAS staff thgat needs refreshed! Most have tenure, so goodluck in that project. It is my belief that new management is a MUST!
Pulling the wool back from our eyes…………………………………………………………………
It will be a beautiful Extension Service Office Building.
And some times the 4H’ers will be allowed to use it when it is convenient for Pam Allen.
You can fool some of the people some of the time. But not all of the people all of the time.
Just like they did at MLB the extention service will have the building booked up by them or the master gardeners and there will be no time for the 4Hers to use the facilities or they will have it locked and no one available to open the doors. Also that placefflooded and where are they going to be! Out of a building to use. You the people still have the upper hand to vote them all out come election day.
I am excited about the new property and all that it offers. It might not be 200+ acre’s, but its a GREAT step forward and allows the kids to continue their agricultural experiences. It would be impossible to please everyone in this situation, but I think Steven Barry has done a tremendous job trying to “right the wrong” that other leaders felt was unimportant once the Langley Bell funds were received. I want to say Thank you to Mr. Barry and all of the 4H leaders that invested tireless hours and energy into standing up for the kids of Escambia County 4H. Hope everyone takes the time to tour the new property today.
Ain’t it great that we have CC that teach the youth of our area how to deceive and talk around the truth. Its a crying shame the way the 4-H members were flat lied to, not by Navy federal but by our elected official’s.
