Cantonment Burglar Arrested Thanks To Alert Neighbors

June 27, 2014

Thanks to alert neighbors, an alleged Cantonment burglar is behind bars.

Residents on Escambia Avenue reported a burglary in progress to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office early Tuesday morning after watching a male subject go through a couple of vehicles. One of the neighbors was able to identify the suspect as Darrell Mashburn, a known burglar, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

One victim told deputies that her vehicle was unlocked. She said nothing was missing from her car, but contents of the glove box had been gone through.

After being taken into custody, Mashburn pulled away from a deputy and fled on foot while in handcuffs, according to an arrest report. After a short foot pursuit, he was captured.

Mashburn was charged with burglary of a vehicle, petit theft, criminal mischief, resisting arrest without violence and escape. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set $23,000.

    arlene,
    Not misinterpreted, misstated

    No Excuses,
Yep, I intentionally used judgement/judgment both ways when commenting.

Some of these things just can’t be taken seriously therefore they should be taken playfully

    David for better burglars

According the Merriam-Webster dictionary, either spelling of judgement/judgment is correct. So, David’s spelling is OK on that one.

Mashburn and his friends broke into my car two times in one year causing $1000 in damages and then broke into my garage and stole about $600 worth of items. All this was done while myself and two small children were home alone. He owes my family restitution and still I havent seen a dime. The courts really need to stay on top of this. He is very dangerous and nothing stops him and his crew of friends and made everyone fill unsafe in their own home. My family packed up and moved.

It’s summertime and the heat drives criminals out of the woodwork, let alone “decent” folks, had a friend with an excellent job, homeowner, etc., tell me once “it’s your job to lock it, if it’s not locked, it’s mine” I was shocked coming from a middle class guy. Note to David above:not only is the verse cited misinterpreted, but judgment is misspelled twice.

Judgement withheld on several crimes last year, ordered to get a GED.
Wonder if Judge Bergosh will need to reconsider that withholding of judgement.
Might need a few more chances first.
Judge not lest ye too be burglarized and all that.

    Can’t depend on apathy forever.
Oh well, maybe the judge will let him go back to what he’s known for.

He’s lucky no one took a shot at him. This should be a reminder to us all to tighten up the security around our homes and report all suspicious activity.

hmm. My car was broken into about 6 months ago. Well, I inadvertently left it unlocked one night by mistake. The glove compartment was ransacked, my tablet was stolen and so were some winning lottery scratch offs. I live in Cantoment. I wonder if this guy was the one. I hope they do lock him away for awhile. I know other neighbors in my neighborhood also had someone go through their cars. One neighbor even had a utility trailer stolen out of his side yard. Hopefully, this idiot will have to do some time.

This is why being alert and having a group of people keeping an eye out is important. I don’t know if this was from a Neighborhood watch or not but they did the right thing!
