Burglar Steals Handicapped Dog From Kennel, Hits Convenience Store (With Video)

June 23, 2014

Authorities are working to solve early Sunday morning burglaries in Florida and Alabama that could be connected — one of which ended with the theft of a handicapped dog.

The dog, Bella, suffers from a broken back and needs a dog wheelchair to get around. She was inside her cage at the K-9 Cleaners kennel on West Nashville Avenue in Atmore  early Sunday morning when a white male ripped a security camera from a wall and forced his way into the rear door of the business.

Police said he skipped over items of value including the register, instead going straight for the dog cages and taking nothing from the business but Bella and a cellular wi-fi modem before fleeing in an known type vehicle. The burglary and dog theft is under investigation by the Atmore Police Department.

Investigators have all but ruled out the man having any previous connection to the dog or its owner, who lives in Century.

Within a few minutes of that burglary, a white male smashed a window and entered the Davisville BP on Highway 97 in Florida, about five miles away.  He fled the business with the cash register, which was recovered in nearby field later in the day, and cigarettes. The burglary is under investigation by the Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said they are not positive that the burglaries are connected, but for now they believe they may have been committed by the same man.

Anyone with information on the K-9 Cleaners burglary or the whereabouts of Bella, should call the Atmore Police Department at (251) 368-9141. Anyone with information on the Davisville BP burglary should contact the Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

Thank you all for your comments and concerns. The imaging you see as a second person, that would be a reflection of a police officer. The video was recorded by a smartphone, from what I have heard they couldn’t access the direct recorded feed. If you have any information about this individual please contact the at more PD, all my family and I our concerned about is the safe return of our dog, bella.

    You’re great, Lebowski!

Yeah, they should digitally add 10 megapixals to this video so we can produce an high definition image of his tatoo. Then they can add thermal imaging to the existing camera system so that we might notice that he suffers from axillary hyperhidrosis. Then by cross referencing medical records and approximating the perpetrator’s age, they could narrow the search to just…one…suspect……..

he has a tattoo on his right wrist if they can get a digital analyst to clear it up.and a better pic of his face.

    >There appears to be a reflection of a second person walking. It took someone pointing it out to me and me watching it again. I had to make the screen bigger but I saw it. When he’s standing still working on the camera there’s something moving looks like a reflection of a second person walking. Maybe there’s 2 people involved.

What you see is a reflection of someone moving in thhe room as police watched the surveillance video. They were unable to retrieve the digital video from the recorder…what you see was recorded from a screen using a smartphone. So you are seeing a reflection on the monitor screen, not something recorded on the video.

Just don’t take the dog! Unforgivable!

Looking at the video this trashbag left a lot of fingerprints. Chances are he was arrested before and can be identified. He has no decent shred in his body. Once he realizes he cannot sell the dog, he will probably kill or otherwise dispose of Bella.

He needs to be stealing a weightlifting set. He’s gonna get beat down in prison with those tiny arms.

This is really sad. Seems that he knew what he was going after. K-9 Kleaners is a great place, they truly love the pets that are taken there. I Bella is found soon.

In which direction from BP station was cash register found? K9 Cleaner Kennel folks and others – please check fields, side roads, even homes in that area. This guy may have dumped Bella in those areas when he discovered she was handicapped. It’s a long shot but worth stomping the ground to investigate.

Dude, turn that dog in somewhere. Tell whoever you turn it over to that you found it – or have someone else turn her in. Or, call the kennel and leave Bella someplace safe for them to come and retrieve her. You needed money, you got it. You don’t need Bella. Let something good happen now in your life and do the right thing.
If you’re reading this and a friend of this guy, you have the opportunity to do the right thing, too. Stealing money is one thing. Stealing a handicapped dog? C’mon, man. Be a man and return her.
