Over 2200 Escambia Homes, Businesses Damaged Or Destroyed In Flood

May 3, 2014

Over 2,200 Escambia County homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed in this week’s floods, according to the Escambia County Building Inspections Damage Assessment Team.

The latest information, as of Friday, indicated that 1,252 homes suffered major damage with 12 inches or more of water, 930 homes had minor damage and three homes were destroyed. In addition, 50 businesses suffered major damage.

Those numbers are expected to increase as the team continues damage assessments throughout the weekend.

The Escambia County Shelter Transition Team will be coordinating the housing needs of residents, along with other community partners and agencies, in assisting persons to return to either temporary or permanent housing while homes are being repaired.

An American Red Cross shelter is also open  at the Fricker Community Center, 900 North “F” Street, Pensacola. There were 60 people in the shelter on Friday.

    The best way to deal with photos is simple. PLEASE share this information
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oil Paintings: Use a soft britsol tooth brush, Murphy’s Oil Soap ONLY. Using the tooth brush, gently brush in a circular. Wipe clean with a warm, damp cloth. Let it air dry.
    All other photos:
    Use LIQUID Ivory soap. Wash the photo using just your hand an warm water . Once cleaned, just hang the picture by one corner with a clothes pin
    If you are needing help with your home or know of someone who needs help and other things the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief is set up at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Come in person or call with your needs so they can know how they can help. They are working daily with many volunteers to help.
    2701 Woodbreeze Drive was one of the few houses with not flood damage. She is serving as a drop off site for donations and supplies. I’ve already delivered things twice. She’s usually driving around the neighborhood delivering supplies but you can just leave the items at her garage. Current requests are sunblock, snacks, Gatorade, face masks, hand sanitizer, and grocery bags to use for deliveries.
    We were there today for five hours removing sheetrock and drying photos. So much labor is needed. Tomorrow after church, we are joining others from Heritage Baptist in removing set insulation and setting up generators and fans. We care. Do what you can. Don’t just think about it. Come join us at Bristol Park.
    If you have gift cards take them to Health and Hope Clinic behind Olive Baptist church on Monday. The will distribute to the uninsured.
    >>WHERE would we take these items?
    Sometimes the best way to help is with others….by volunteering for or financially supporting the Red Cross, Florida Baptist Relief, a local church, etc.
    In Bristol Park, for instance, the residents don’t really need household items right now…they don’t a house to put them in! Needs are more immediately like shelter and food, and that’s where the large groups are experts in knowing how to help.
    These people need help. If you don’t do anything else but bring coffee and pizzas! Go collect their clothes and wash them…it helps so much. Put it in a plastic container and return it to them clean! Take a gift card for shoes and socks. Gift cards for restaurants. Gift card for one night in a hotel to get clean. Labor to cut out Sheetrock and remove molding insulation. HELP.
