Escambia County Curbside Debris Removal Completed
May 17, 2014
Escambia County’s debris collector has completed its curbside collection efforts in the most heavily storm damaged areas.
Now, residents with storm-related debris will need to contact their regular waste provider:
- Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) at (850) 476-0480
- City of Pensacola Sanitation Services at (850) 435-1890
- Town of Century – Regular bulk pickups are the first and third Tuesday of each month (no phone call required)
Escambia County will continue to offer a free debris drop off site at John R. Jones athletic park located at 555 E. Nine Mile Road. Citizens looking to drop of material at this site will need to access the park from the Airway Drive entrance.
This site is for residential use only. Commercial haulers, contractors or commercial companies are prohibited. This drop off site will remain open until further notice.
For more information, contact Escambia County Solid Waste Management at (850) 937-2160.

ECUA solid-waste trucks are working regular routes Tues-Fri and are returning to the flooded areas on the weekends. At this time, ruined drywall is still being put out. ECUA will pick it up.
The announcement that “Escambia County” is ending pickup of storm debris represented the Escambia County Dept of Solid Waste, which did little picking up anyway. The statement did NOT represent ECUA. ECUA is continuing to pick up storm debris. Questions may be directed to me at 850-723-6094 or lwalker@ecua.fl.gov.
Ok, I agree that the workers have went beyond the call, but how can Escambia County say the road side pick up is complete when many Escambia County tax payers, as well as paying customers, are still trying to get their homes and lives back to ‘normal’!!? Will the road side pick up still be available to the most flooded citizens?
I would like to say thank you also to these workers. They took extra care not to damage the grass or cable boxes where our pile of debris was at. Our house was not as affected as some of the other people on our street. Thank you so much for your hard work.
Another question though as Mike J. said would ECUA do extra runs if there are more debris as contractors become available to do the work needed in the neighborhoods?
I was in Bristol Park yesterday helping a family since the flood. All of the debris is NOT picked up. Maybe “nearly all” but not “all”. Some residents are still removing sections of drywall. I realize the extra removal process had to be limited but the regular scheduled pickup may not be enough for a few weeks. Then there will be the construction process and since I had some work on my house elsewhere I know that there is a bit of waste materials from construction. Are those companies required to remove their own trash? Thanks to the ECUA workers and the large truck crew who probably had to work longer hours.
My Son was one of the ECUA driver’s and I’ll let you all know he was upset to see all the damage…..It broke his Heart to see this,,,,he told me it was so sad to see this and it felt like he was the one taking your belonging from you….He has a very big Heart and it hurt him as well…….
BIG Thanks to those involved in the curbside pickup.
While it is agonizing for the residents to have to move their flood ruined property, belongings, and in some cases their treasured memory books and items from the home to the street for disposal it is also good to see the things removed.
Many would not be able to properly or quickly dispose of the curbside piles of debris without the assistance of these county workers.
Some may think they are “just doing their job” however it never hurts to say Thank You to those who have in some way assisted us.
