Carjacking Victim Stabbed; Suspect Shot By Deputy Following Chase, Wreck

May 11, 2014

A carjacking victim was stabbed and the suspect was later shot by a deputy following a chase and wreck Saturday night.

The incident began about 7:20 p.m. Saturday in the area of West Nine Mile Road and Pensacola Boulevard when Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an armed carjacking that had just occurred. A male victim had been stabbed, suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Immediately after the call was received, deputies located the carjacked vehicle in the area of Palafox Street and Olive Road. The driver of the vehicle fled, with deputies giving pursuit. The pursuit continued until the suspect crashed on Pensacola Boulevard and Ensley Street, near the Walmart store.

An officer-involved shooting occurred following the traffic crash, according to a spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting were not released.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to recover, authorities said.

Escambia County Sheriff’s investigators said the original carjacking incident and stabbing appear to have been drug related. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which is standard procedure.

Further details have not yet been released.

So everyone yelling about the cop being better shot I’d like to see you go after someone shooting at you i bet you could not hit much either heck you would most likely hide and he can’t just take some one out cause it would be better for everybody he stops the threat and sends the guy to jail thank god no bystanders where killed or any of the officers involved where killed

The officer should be given a leave of absence so he can attend remedial training at gun range. Next time the outcome will be less expensive for the tax payers !!

    God bless you deputy

My, my, my seems as though these “thugs” (that word appears to be the going title for this carjacker) are really a problem for all the GREAT law abiding citizens of Pensacola huh…? Awwwww…

Let’s see, a car jacking, stabbing, and shooting, not to mention the danger to the public while all this was happening. Let’s quibble about percents

According to Bureau of Justice, only about 26% of violent crimes are drug related. This includes alcohol, which accounts for more than 10% of the26%.

I’m with Matt, to bad the deputy wasnt a better shot!! It would have save us all a lot of money and we wouldn’t have to worried about him (Thug) doing it again!

At bt. I said violent crimes. Not the typical burglary, petit theft, or grand theft. Most of those crimes are done when the victim is not at home and probably off working at a job or doing other things. Most of the ones I mentioned in my previous post the victim knows the perpetrator or has some prior knowledge of then. BT if you really want to get to know how this works and see first hand go to the citizens law enforcement academy or get sponsored to do a ride along and see first hand. Btw invest in a alarm system, harden your residence and make it undesirable for a burglar to want to break in your house.

    Tell like it is bro…

I’d be interested to see something that supports the 90 percent claim. The perpetrators may be involved with drugs, but the victims are likely not. I’ve seen too many stories with older and apparently innocent victims.

My house was broken into. According to your statistics, I’m likely a druggie…and it’s probably my fault.

About 90% of these violent calls ie home invasion, robberies, and car jacking are drug related. The average law abiding citizen wouldn’t put themselves in a position to be a victim. Not saying it can’t randomly happen but the majority of these type of calls we respond to drugs are involved. And guess who’s left cleaning up the mess. LEOS at the tax payers tab. Happy Mother’s Day.

Saw this shortly after it happened last night. What a mess drugs create, and what havoc these thugs wreak. I’ll be interested in seeing the carjacker’s (and “victim’s) rap sheet. I’m thinking this isn’t a spur-of-the-moment first offense. Another product of revolving door justice?

Walked out out of the walmart hear sirens then shots.
Hope the Officers and bystanders are all okay.

Great job ECSO. Folks, get your permits, lock your car doors, put the pistol with in reach and use it.

  17. Matt on May 11th, 2014 2:03 am

Good job, LEO! Fast work on getting that guy off the street. Too bad you didn’t shoot him a couple extra times to be sure he was not a threat anymore.
