Sheriff’s Office, Other Groups Sweep Milestone Area
April 18, 2014
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office held a Clean Sweep operation Thursday morning in the Milestone area.
The focus of “Operation Clean Sweep” was to work with the 9 1/2 Mile Road Neighborhood Watch group, residents, churches and business owners to control and prevent the damaging effects of criminal activity, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Volunteers from the U.S. Navy also worked throughout the day to clean trash and debris from alongside neighborhoods streets.
During the sweep, there were two arrests, 33 traffic citations issued, 15 code violations, seven sex crime address verifications, one car seized and three tons of trash and debris removed.

>>The headline is a little misleading. Milestone was only the mustering point. We were sweeping areas that were a mile or two from milestone.
ECSO press release headline: “Operation Clean Sweep Milestone”
We added the word “area” to our headline to expand the geography a bit.
The headline is a little misleading. Milestone was only the mustering point. We were sweeping areas that were a mile or two from milestone. These sweeps are done all over the County. Crime is not localized. Kudos to the Sheriff, contrary to Jaleen’s nasty comments.
It’s all about the VOTES people…… Nothing more!!!! And by the way don’t run for sheriff. You may go to jail!!!
Thank you all the information. I do appreciate it
How do these sweeps work? Are they going door to door looking for issues they think need to be resolved? Checkpoints? I know the article says they’re catching some bad guys, but this really seems like a big violation of privacy.
When they do a neighborhood watch they serve warrants, do vehicle checks, and code enforcement to name a few. The Navy and volunteers do the clean up. Be glad someone cares enough to volunteer to help clean up. There are websites at ECSO that let you check where the predators and offenders are, also where crimes have been committed. Look at David Craig’s post for a link……….
Use this link to find a neighborhood search for sex offenders and predators provided by the FDLE: http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/searchNeighborhood.do?actionPerformed=neighborhoodSearchMain
Just type in your address and zip and you’ll see all of the offenders and predators in your area. Works for anyone in any neighborhood in Florida.
Milestone really?? To think that all of this effort could have really made a difference in a much needed area.
I am always scared when I drive through this area…lol
I wish people would wake up and quit voting for this idiot.
i volunteered at one in montclair area that had less arrest.
they do all the bad areas once a year they have to do nice areas too for profiling reasons… so do your research you would probably find out the place you think needed it more has already been done or on the list for the coming months..
Excuse me but I live in Milestone. Our HOA did inform us this was going to take place! I’d like to know what sex offenders!!! I have children!
I agree with some of the sarcasm as well. It was a suprise that they go to an area like Milestone for a clean sweep. I can think of a WHOLE bunch of areas that need clean sweeping more than they did. What…..did the HOA letters not get it clean so they called the ECSD? I guess they get tired of doing areas that truly need to be douched. Oh well, at least they’re out there and being involved.
I agree Terrance.
But everyone doesn’t understand sarcasm.
Between this and something else I heard about, it seems that the Navy does a fair bit of volunteer work locally. I had not been aware of this up until now. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Great job by all for helping to clean an area that sorely needed it. I hear Portifino is next.
productive day! a big thank you to all who came out to help and the officials who did the law enforcement work!
great job
