April 4, 2014

One man was arrested after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office seized over $120,000 in cash and a kilo of cocaine during a drug raid Thursday morning.

“The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit has stepped up to the plate and hit and home run,” Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said.

The Narcotics Unit and SWAT team served a search warrant in the 4000 block of Marlane Drive about 6 a.m. Deputies said when they located and detained 39-year old Antonio Blackwell inside the residence, he had a white powdery substance on his arms and legs that field tested positive for cocaine. And cocaine was also found on a toilet seat and the floor around the toilet.

During a search of the kitchen Ziploc bags containing marijuana and cocaine were located, along with a razor blade with cocaine residue and a digital scale with cocaine residue. There was also cocaine located in the air conditioner filter vent in the home’s hallway.

Approximately $123,713 of U.S. currency was located throughout the residence, along with two weapons, deputies said.

Blackwell was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, trafficking cocaine (over 28 grams) destruction of evidence and possession of a weapon. He was  booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $35,000.

I had known Antonio for a while… i was in prison with him 6 yrs ago at pensacola work release! he was a good friend and doesnt deserve all these negative comments. And no, i wasnt a customer, i had no idea he was selling anything! This is crazy!

Mike, it doesn’t matter to the parents who have lost their children to drugs. Or anyone who has lost a love one to drugs, if he’s involved in selling, he needs to be buried deep in jail. And if our love ones get caught buying drugs then they to need to go to jail. And I pray this bust saved someone’s life. Thank you law enforcement!!! Great job and be safe! :)

At times a bond is set low at the request of the Narcotics Unit during an ongoing investigation.
With the dealer back on the street, they will watch his every move and more arrests can be made, possibly an entire drug ring.
This amount of drugs and money causes doubt he was acting alone.

Has anyone heard of the presumption of innocence? Officers set the bond, not the judge.

  5. judge roy beane on April 4th, 2014 3:22 pm

who is the judge that set this laughable bond amount?

Let me get this straight . . . . some of you want to throw him under the jail when he’s the middle man. He isn’t the kingpin that ships it over here by the ton and makes billions a month, he isn’t any of your cocaine addicted friends and relatives that are keeping him in business but he deserves more punishment than the rest?

How about we execute the kingpins in Columbia and Mexico, execute the middle men like this guy and then come after some of the hypocrite substance abusers walking among us!

I think they should take all that money and divide it between the officers and swat that made this happen as a bonus for doing what they do to get this off the streets no amount of money is too much for putting there lives on the line dealing with these druggies.

Mistreat an animal…bond is out of sight……ruin hundreds of lives …bond is minimal…his higher up will have him out and back on the streets in short order…or his customers will….geesh…what judge was this???

Another thing, look at this guy’s record in public records, habitual felon, whatever happened to the three strike law? They should put this menace away for YEARS!!!

Who set this bond. Really!!!!!!!!! A preschooler could of figured out that he could get that in a minute. That is sad we put law enforcements life on the line when the judicial system is so ready to bond them out I have seen a much higher bond on a lesser felon. Really Sad…

    tg:

enablers do exist, but the drug users and those purchasing are ruining their OWN lives, our culture loves to shift responsibility and play the blame game. Now, this guy needs the book thrown at him for his crimes. He should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Can you folks believe that small of a bond for a person ruining so many lives.

Over a kilo of coke. Over $100k. Guns (probably possessed by a felon). And ONLY $35,000 bond? Whoever set that bond needs to be fired.

Great job ECSO Narcotics and SWAT. These men and women spend a lot of time and effort behind the scenes to protect us.

Cocaine is a bad drug, good to see it off the street.

I hope that ESCO gets to keep the funds and that none of that bunch over in the federal
    starts reaching with their fingers.

Great work Sheriff Morgan and ECSO Narcotics & Swat Teams!

It is about time they get a big bust here in Escambia County! As many drugs that are in this county it seems to me that we should be hearing more stories about these things than we do.

On and around the toilet? Most of the product probably went into ECUA’s sewer system. But great job in getting the rest of this stuff off the streets. As for the money, hopefully it’ll be put to good use. That is if it makes it into the right account… Remember Cathy Lister?

  19. Don on April 4th, 2014 4:47 am

A $35,000 bond? this dude has $120K just laying around do ya think it will be hard to get his bond money together swiftly? Drug dealers have this contingency built into their system,it’s just part of doing business, won’t hurt him at all and he’ll be out before the ink is dry on the paper…..

  20. tomtom48 on April 4th, 2014 2:36 am

ok let me see if i got this right. The police found him with $123,000 which is probably drug money, they also found a 2 hand gun a kilo of cocaine
some reed and his bond is set at $35,000. No problem just give him back a little of the money and he can make bond. This justice system we have is great ~!~!~!~

35,000 dollar bond, what a joke.
