Commission Once Again Postpones Vote On New County Administrator

April 4, 2014

Escambia County still does not have a new administrator and any decision is going to be at least a week away.

The Escambia County Commission was set to pick an administrator Thursday night, but didn’t happen after Commissioner Luman May missed the meeting for a reason that was not immediately known. May likely holds the deciding vote between offering the job to Interim Administrator Larry Newsom and one of the five finalists picked by a search firm.

Commissioner Wilson Robertson made a motionĀ  Thursday to just scrap the entire hiring process to date and start over, but that motion failed 2-2.

“This is too serious for one-fifth of the county to not be represented in the vote,” Commissioner Gene Valentino said of May’s absence as commissioners voted 4-0 to postpone a vote on administrator candidates until a special meeting at 10 a.m. on April 10.

Newsom should NOT even be considered.

He is NOT one of the 5 finalists.

I agree, our county is poorly represented by it’s elected officials and who would WANT to be part of this disfunctional group.

Are the County Commissioners even aware that they appear foolish with their actions? I really hope some of them are voted out when elections take place. The few that are working to make things simpler and better are out voted by the good ol’ boys!

If I were in the running, I would have one heluva separation clause in that contract. There is no way the contract would go full term with this bunch.

If Mr. Newsom wanted the job, he should have applied for it. Now some want to side step the agreed upon process of selection, that’s typical for this bunch. Commissioner May, knew he didn’t want any part of this, as he is the swing vote. He had no intention of being at the meeting. He was hoping they would decide and he could claim no involvement, once it goes sour.

yall better remember newson is the good old boys. .he gave upper management and engineers a raise with out giving the workers nothing. mr.may will talk to the workers where no other commissioner has talk to the employees.for one thing they don’t want to listen to what the employees has to say.the white collar jobs get big raises and big truck to drive, what does the workers get? nothing if they had to live off what the small workers make they would be sleeping under a bridge.

    I agree with Louise.
How desperate must the candidates be to even consider taking this job if offered?
And the favored candidate of Valentino and Robertson is the deputy administrator Newsome.
And he has not yet made it known that he even wants the job.

After the ongoing arguing between the commissioners I think if I was one of the candiates (or any of them) I would just say thanks but no thanks. How unstable is the board’s actions now? Too unstable for my liking (and anyone else with a brain)

Why would anyone in their right mind want to be the county administrator for this county.

“This is too serious for one-fifth of the county not to be represented in the vote.” But not serious enough for everyone to be there, I guess.

A few certain commissioners have their own agenda and will not stop until they’ve obtained it or until their constituents see the light and vote them out. Good ‘Ole Boy system lives strong!!!

No need voting when there are 4 and you know how that vote will come out. Apparently Mr. May can’t handle the pressure of knowing he has the deciding vote.

Of course he could always take the high road and want a different person.
You know , a 2-2-1 vote. Maybe they could pay me 45,000 to narrow a list for them next time.

YES SIR……These folks are prime candidates to represent us in our nation’s capitol. After all, we haven’t had a budget in 6 years….These folks would fit right in.
