Century Burglar Shot In The Act Arrested On The Run In Louisiana

April 1, 2014

A Century man on the run from the law since he failed to show up for a sentencing hearing in February has been arrested in Louisiana.

Ricky DeWayne Taylor, 34, was arrested by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in on a misdemeanor charge of possession of stolen things. He is being held without bond in the Lafayette County (LA) Jail awaiting extradition back to the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola.

On January 21, Taylor pleaded no contest to the charges against him, including  burglary and grand theft. Judge Michael Allen allowed Taylor to stay free on bond until his February 20 sentencing hearing.

On May 17, 2013, Taylor broke into the victim’s home on Rockaway Creek Road  and began removing items. The victim unexpectedly returned and caught  Taylor and co-defendant Teresa Sunday in the act. Sunday, who was acquainted with the victim, had called him earlier that day to lure him away from the home to meet her at a local pool hall.

The victim held them at gunpoint with a .38 caliber revolver and contacted the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. As the victim was speaking with dispatchers, Taylor lunged toward him. The homeowner fired a .38 caliber revolver, striking Taylor in the leg and grazing Sunday on the left cheek. Taylor was alert and conscious when he was transferred to LifeFlight to be airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. He was charged with burglary, larceny, criminal mischief property damage and battery.

Sunday, age 35 of Century,  pleaded guilty to charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft of a dwelling. In January, she was sentenced by Judge Michael Allen to five years in state prison.

Taylor was also charged with burglary and grand theft on Klondike Road on May 10, 2013.  Deputies say he parked his Lincoln Town Car with Alabama plates near a home in the 8000 block of Klondike. He then allegedly took a duffel bag, five extension cords and a five gallon gas can from a barn and placed them outside, according to an arrest report.

The resident walked outside and confronted Taylor near the duffle bag outside of his barn. Taylor ran and the victim gave chase but was unable to keep up. The victim noticed the out of place Lincoln Town Car in the neighborhood and photographed the tag. After the victim returned home, he drove around in an attempt to located the suspect and passed the Lincoln, being driven by the man he chased from his yard.

Deputies were able to trace the Lincoln to Taylor from the tag photo, and the victim positively identified Taylor from a photo lineup.

    CONTEMPLATING
” He is a good person and about wonderful father to all of our kids.”

It is good he is so good and such a wonderful father but isn’t it hard to be a wonderful father when you have done bad things which got yourself thrown in prison for years or are on the run from the law?

    David for reality

I think yall are taking that the wrong way. When i said people spreading lies i was not in any way talking about the post sbout him stealing your stuff. Iwas talking to the one who commented a bout praying for him. He has done horible stuff and he knows he has to pay for his crimes. But that does not mean his children do. And we all know he will not ever be able to read this but they will. So what good does it do to put him down? He is a good person and about wonderful father to all of our kids.

Is anyone being forced to read these comments?

    If so, shame on them.

If not, why gripe at the victims — the ones being robbed, the ones risking their lives protecting us from the criminals and the rest who have pay the cost of law enforcement, the justice system, the penal system?

    David for reasonable people

Yes he did commit the crimes and no maybe he wasn’t thinking of his children at the time and yes he has hurt them by his actions. So their is no need for them to be be hurt by people’s harsh and cruel comments about their Dad. You dont think their hurting enough by losing him for a long time sure to his actions?? He has some wonderful children and I’m praying for them thru this all. I’m also prayin for you Ricky. I know people make mistakes and take that wrong path in life.. The devil is a evil thing..

spreading lies? His actions speak louder than any words people may have uddered about him, the point is he is a thief and a Habitual criminal, he has no problem commiting crime and harming others, so why should any one feel sorry for him? As for his children, he is the one hurting them not anyone else. If he cared about what his children or anyone else thought about him, he wouldn’t be out there doing the things he is doing. I for one have no compassion for him.

Go ahead and put this one away for a long time, this one will continue to be a problem and burden on society, take his freedom away and be done with it.

$15,500 bond forfeit per court records? Good.

Very little discussion, Jane, regarding his many crimes against others.

If he dragged his family and friends into his shameful actions, that is another one on him.
Calling on others to ignore the workings of the wheels of justice will have no effect on his shame — if he feels any, which seems unlikely given the number of forsaken opportunities to repent or even just stop adding to the list.

It looks like it’s up to Judge Allen to put a stop to his predation or let him continue.

    David for better people,
    better choices

Your so right Jean. Now,if he will return the generator I had yet to use, the two chainsaws I use to make a living, the weed eaters, drills, heavy duty hydraulic jack, truck tire rims (semi truck), scrape steel and that does not include the window he busted or the stuff he took out of my house; then yes, I will not say anything bad about him. Oh yeh, if you should talk to him; ask him to pick me up a sack of crawfish on his way to Morgan’s Hotel from Louisiana. I’ll be glad to reimburse him.

    Thanks again Jean

We like to share our felons with other states.

I’m not clear, does the bail bondsman get his or her money back in cases like this?
    If so, why?
    If no, good.

    David for correct consequences

Hey, Judge M. Allen, perhaps this time you should consider keeping this man in custody until his trial.
Slippery fella and back to his old tricks of the trade.

  17. Jane on April 1st, 2014 5:33 am

Don’t let him out on bail this time, judge!
