Leslie Jackson “L.J.” Crutchfield

Leslie Jackson “L.J.” Crutchfield, Jr. 88, of Atmore. passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Bay Minette  He was born October 19, 1925, to the late Leslie Jackson Crutchfield, Sr. and Lula Bell Myrick Crutchfield. He was a WWII veteran and served in the Pacific on the U.S.S. New York. He had retired from civil service where he had worked at Brookley Field and NAS Pensacola. He attended The Church of the Living God in Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Jewel McNeil Crutchfield, second wife Frances Odom Crutchfield and one brother Melvin Crutchfield.

He is survived by his son Larry E. (Pennie) Crutchfield of Warner Robins, GA, and a  daughter Melanie Bell (Kim) Crocker of Riviera, TX, Five grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton.

Visitation will Monday March 10, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Chloe Channell Headlines FFA Blue Jacket Jamboree (With Photo Galleries)

The annual Blue Jacket Jamboree was held Saturday at Northview High School to benefit the school’s FFA program.

The day’s entertainment included 12-year old Chloe Channell of America’s Got Talent fame, The Dusty Sanderson Band and more.

The Blue Jacket Jamboree also included arts and crafts, plenty of food, a car show, activities and games for the kids and other family-friendly activities.

America fell in love with Chloe Channell last fall on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” when she sang the Carrie Underwood cover song “All American Girl” and made it all the way to quarterfinals at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. She performed with the Sawmill Band at the Farmer’s Opry in Chumuckla, since she was seven and has opened for country stars like Tracy Bird, Rodney Adkins, Little Big Town and Craig Morgan. This past Christmas, she was on stage with Billy Dean in the Kenny Rogers Production of “The Toy Shoppe” in Branson, Missouri.

Pensacola native Dusty Sanderson has been playing guitar since he was 10-years old and singing on stage since he turned 14. He has written over 75 songs and recently recorded his first four song album at Quad Studios in Nashville with Grammy nominated producer Dave Moody on the Lamon Records label. His first music video for the title track “Chuggin’ Along” was shot in January in McDavid.

Atmore Motorcyclist Killed In Cantonment Crash

A 19-year old Atmore motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon in Cantonment.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Jacob Dale Lisenby was northbound about 1:08 p.m.  on Highway 29 on a 1999 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed when he noticed 69-year old Mary O. Simpkins of Cantonment pulling out of the Grocery Advantage parking lot in a 1987 Chevrolet van.

Lisenby attempted to stop his motorcycle by laying it down on the pavement, but was unable to stop before colliding with the van in the northbound lanes of Highway 29, according to the FHP.

Lisenby, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Escambia County EMS.

Charges against Simpkins are pending the results of a traffic homicide investigation, the FHP said.

Escambia Murder Suspect Arrested In Mississippi

An Escambia County man is behind bars in Mississippi, charged in the Friday murder of his wife in the Mayfair community.

Antoine Tyshawn Banks, 34, is being held without bond in the Harrison County (MS) Jail. He was booked into the jail at 7:24 Saturday morning by the Biloxi (MS) Police Department. Banks was held on a homicide charge from Escambia County for the shooting death of his wife, 29-year old Alexis Monique Banks, according to Mississippi jail records.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was called to McKinley Drive, just off Mobile Highway near the Osceola Golf Course, Friday night.  That’s where they discovered Alexis Banks dead with apparent gunshot wound.

Antoine Banks as waived extradition and is now in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

Aviation Company To Hold Job Recruitment And Info Session

An aviation company that may expand to Escambia County will hold a job recruitment and information session later this month.

ST Aerospace maintains, overhauls and repairs aircraft. They currently employ over 1,300 people in Mobile. The company plans to construct a satellite operation inside the Pensacola International Airport Commerce Park that may produce as many as 300 jobs for the area.

A recruitment and information session for ST Aerospace will be held on Thursday, March 20, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the National Naval Aviation Museum located at 1750 Radford Boulevard aboard NAS Pensacola.

ST Aerospace Representatives will be on-site to discuss available employment opportunities and answer related questions. Multiple openings are currently available for aircraft maintenance inspectors, avionics mechanics, APG mechanics, structure/sheet metal mechanics and interior mechanics. Area training providers will also be on-site to discuss available aeronautical training programs.

Escambia SO Neighborhood Watch Academy Accepting Applications

Applications are now being accepted for the 19th Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Neighborhood Watch Academy which will be held Tuesday, March 18 in the ECSO Administration Building at 1700 West Leonard Street in Pensacola.

The free training is being provided to neighborhood volunteers for new and existing neighborhood watch programs, or anyone interested in preventing crime.

The one evening seminar begins with a complementary meal at 5:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm.Should you wish to start a Neighborhood Watch group or simply make yourself less likely to be a victim of crime, this class is for you. Much of the curriculum covers basic safety and security tips for the home, anonymous reporting and crime prevention through environmental design. Chiefs Fall To Chipley

The Northview Chiefs lost two to the Chipley Tigers Friday night.  Chipley’s junior varsity topped Northview 9-4, and Chipley beat Northview’s varsity 7-2. Joe William Acreman

Joe William Acreman left this life on earth for heaven to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born in Crenshaw County, AL to the late Hattie Lee and William Henry Acreman on May 26, 1933. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Buster, Horace, Sam and Bascom and five sisters, Alice Cox, Willie Mae Owens, Zula Taunton, Pearline Tompkins, and Odie Lee Cox; brother-in-law, Max Mott and mother and father-in-law, AZ and Blanche Mott.

Mr. Acreman is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sara Anne Mott Acreman and daughter, Amy Jo Acreman Bates and her husband, Thomas and his grandson, Brandon Bates.

He served in the United States Army in Korea. He worked for the Department of Defense at Corry Station and NAS Mainside for 30 years.He was a faithful member of East Brent Baptist Church for over 35 years and a member of Adult 7 Men’s Sunday School class. Joe loved bass fishing, boating and many outdoor activities. He was a loving husband and wonderful father, father-in-law and PawPaw.

Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Monday, March 10, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at East Brent Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.

Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday school class and Sunday School Department.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to East Brent Baptist Church Rec. Fund, or the charity of your choice.

Faith Chapel Funeral Home North is entrusted with the arrangements.
