Cantonment Man Killed In Collision With Concrete Truck
March 13, 2014
A Cantonment man was killed this morning in a collision involving a pickup truck and a concrete truck in Cantonment.
The accident happened just before 8 a.m. on Jacks Branch Road at Green Tree Circle, just north of Muscogee Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 47-year old Johnson Watson Whitehurst of Cantonment was southbound in a sharp curve on Jacks Branch Road when his 2001 Dodge pickup crossed the center line into the path of a concrete truck driven by 46-year old Jimmy Dwight Weaver, Jr.
After the collision, the concrete truck overturned onto its side, while the pickup came to rest on the shoulder. Whitehurst was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Weaver was transported by ambulance to West Florida Hospital with minor injuries. No charges were filed in the accident.

My Prayers for all of Johnny’s Family. I live across the road from them all. He was a great man and I will sure miss seeing him go pass with his fishing polls on the back of his truck.
I’m glad no charges were filed…
This is a great loss to those who knew him. I never had the chance to fish with him and I don’t do much fishing myself nowadays. But when I think about I its men like Johnny that gives this sport such a great name.
See ya on the river one day!
dear johnny you will be missed by the turbervilles we loved you
So sorry for the family of this lost loved one. May he rest in peace.
Johnny was a good friend in school and afterwards. I will miss him, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, Tanya, and Brooke.
My bus passed by that right before it happened an we saw it start after we passed. It was very scary. My prayers to all the family and friends of both the drivers.
ill never forget our fishing trips brother-in-law you will be dearly missed by all thoughts and prayers for the Whitehurst family
R.I.P. Uncle Johhny.
Although he isn’t any real relation to me I always knew him as Uncle Johnny and he will be missed. I don’t know of anyone thats had ever said anything bad to me about this man. I remember the first time I met him. I was only about 17 and didn’t have a clue who he was but started talking about how my Chevy was better than his truck only because he drove a dodge and he gave my friendly trash talk about his dodge right back to me about my Chevy. We ended up deciding to settle it with truck tug-o-war. We hook the two trucks together at the trailer hitches with a tow rope and locked them down in four wheel drive. Nether of us won or lost because both trucks just dug in the found, although his little dodge did put enough strain on the transfer case of my Chevy that it almost did some major damage.
Just a fun memory of Uncle Johnny I had that I thought I’d share for everyone else to enjoy. Trust me though, it was a lot more fun if you would have been there.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I am so saddened by this,Johnny was a very good friend of mine. Prayers for the family.
My families prayers go out Johnny’s family and friends. He was a great man of the committee and will be missed deeply. I ask the Lord to please provide all who is touched or hurting a path of peace to know he is in a better place, in your hands Lord. Rest in Peace Johnny!
Unfortunately, the road work being done will not improve the hazards on this road, I know we all get caught up at times, but please travel with caution down this very dangerous road! As we move into the summer months, it really becomes dangerous due to the parting at different watering holes out this way, if this saves one life it was worth it!
First and foremost, my thoughts are with the families of those lost and those affected.
I knew Johnny from over 30 years ago. I remember the first time we met I was a skinny little 14 year old and Johnny was already a big guy. At least that’s how I saw it. Anyway, he gave me a hard time and tested me, I guess. Well, I didn’t let that big dude get one over on me, and he respected that. We weren’t friends, but we were cool, if you understand what I mean.
I never saw Johnny again after high school, unless I unknowingly passed him at Winn-Dixie or something.
Rest in peace.
I grew up with this family. Such a tragedy. My prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. I’m so sorry.
Just remembering a fishing tournament!! Johnny Whitehurst and Kenny Bosman were in the tournament and so was my husband (Jay Satterwhite) and Greg Helms!! Well Johnny and Kenny had knocked their motor off their boat and Jay and Greg had to tow them back to Ruby’s…They had a good time but caught little fish!!! Thanks Johnny for great memories in High School and after…You will be missed!! But I can see you and Kenny tearing them fish up on that big boat in Heaven!!! Prayers going out to the Whitehurst family!!! Love You Johnny..
I am so sorry for the loss of a good friend. I’ve known of him for many years and can not believe that this happened to this guy. He will be missed by several in our area and my heart and prayers go out to this family as we have been around them for the past 25 years. May God wrap his hands around all of you! God Bless You and the loss of Johnny!

Sorry for the familys loss. God be with you.
Hope they fix this road. My son used to live in the area and I cringed every time I heard of an accident on that road. That curve, with roads leaving left and right on both sides of it, and the V where it connects to Muskogee are so bad I just wont go that way anymore. Way too many close calls.
My prayers with the families and may God be watching over the families
My prayers to the family of the victim.
I drive down that road almost daily, to and from Cantonment. I’m thinking I may have to switch to Barrineau road for my trip. Seems like that road is getting deadlier by the day.
God please be with the family in their time of need.
i will be so glad when the road work is complete . maybe then it will be safer to drive on Jacks Branch .
I’M PRYING FOR DOS FAMILY GOD IS WITH HIM HE IS NOT ALONG R.I.P MR U ARE IN GODS HANDS NOW YOUR FAMILY LOVES U VERY MUCH R.I.P MR
Praying for those involved.
I had to turn around at the scene and go back the way I came. This is the second wreck I’ve had to see this week. Please watch where you’re going and be aware of your surroundings. You are not invincible. Prayers for the Lisenby’s and for the people involved in this crash and their families.
So sorry for the family that lost a loved one. May The Lord provide them with strength and understanding in the days ahead.
I’m not familiar with that road but it seems like there is a wreck every week on it.
Positive thoughts to the all the families involves in this.
