Samuel Joseph “Joe” Irwin

Former Cantonment  resident Samuel Joseph “Joe” Irwin, 80, died February 25,2014, at his home in Sparta, TN.

Joe was born February 8, 1934, in Atmore  to the late John Calvin and Lillie  (Hardy) Irwin. He graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1952. He married Mary Joyce Smith on
August 30, 1952, in Cottage Hill. He retired from St. Regis/Champion Paper Mill in  1997. Mr. Irwin was active in the community including membership of the First Baptist Church of Cantonment, a former chief of the volunteer fire department, a current  member of Masonic Lodge #322, and the York Rite of Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Diane Dunaway of Milton, FL; daughter, Joanne Irwin of Algood, TN; sister, Eunice Trescott of Virginia Beach; brother Leroy Irwin of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Lesley & Stevyn of TN, and Angela, Amy and Amanda of Florida; great-grandsons Ethan, Trace, Trent and Parker.

Mr. Irwin was also preceded in death by his brother, Dennis.

Services will be held 11 a.m.  Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment. Burial will take place at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Faith Chapel Funeral Home North , 1000 Hwy 29S, Cantonment,  is in charge of arrangements.
