Dying Man’s Missing Dog Has Been Found

February 27, 2014

The story of Max, the missing St. Bernard from Molino, has come to a bittersweet end…..he has been found and is now safely at home.

Tuesday, we first published the story of Max….he went missing Sunday morning when the wind blew open a gate at his home on North 95A near Highway 97. A desperate  search followed because Max’s owner was at the time in the very end stages of a terminal illness and was thought to only have a few days to live.

The family made the plea for help in finding Max so the owner and Max could be reunited, but the owner passed away Tuesday afternoon before Max was found Wednesday afternoon.

After our story and after it was shared hundreds and hundreds of times on Facebook, a community came together to look for Max.

Here is our original story:

Update: Max’s  owner passed away Tuesday afternoon, a few hours after this story was published. The search for Max continues.

The Molino community is being asked to keep an eye out for Max, a large St. Bernard dog that’s missing.

It’s a bit urgent that Max be returned home quickly…his owner is in the very end stages of a terminal illness and may only have a few days to live. The owner desperately wants to be reunited with Max during his remaining days.

Max was last seen Sunday morning. The wind blew open a gate at his home on North Highway 95A near Highway 97  and he wandered away.

Anyone that sees Max should call Mike at (850) 232-0329 or call (850) 712-2452.

I second dixibug’s comment about Northescambia.com. The website is a breath of fresh air. I’ve already got several of my friends hooked on it. And it’s now my browser homepage.
The are stories interesting and well-written (not sure who is writing but they deserve a pat on the back). Community response has been civil, polite, witty/humorous and useful.

Please keep up the good work. I wish Northescambia.com success and will promote the site whenever possible.

Has anyone put a posting on Craig’s List? I’ve heard of several people in our area having good luck with that.

Try getting someone to pass out photos of this dog to the school bus drivers so they can ask the kids if they’ve seen Max.
Might ask the area schools if you can put up posters at the schools.
Kids are all over the place and could help locate Max.
    Best of luck to you.

Please check the animal shelter…they picked up my cat and killed him 2 days later….I live close to this area. I will look for him and alert my neighbors to look also.

Give your mailman a photo and have him keep an eye out. I live in Molino and I do a lot of driving – I will also keep my eyes wide open for him. I hope he comes home soon. I will also share this on my pet sitting page on Facebook. Best of luck to you and to Max! <3

Sorry to hear MAX is missing. I live beside his home and probably the one of the last to see him that night. Always greeted me home. I’ve been in the woods today and haven’t seen him at all. I’ll keep a look about. Sorry to hear about this situation and the timing. I’ll share on Facebook .

I live pretty close to the area where Max lives and went missing. I will check the area when I’m out and about and if I locate him, I will pick him up if I see him and contact the number provided. I hope he returns home safely, I can’t imagine one of my furkids being lost.

Please, physically go down to the animal shelter in town and to the shelter in Alabama. My dog was picked up last year by AC and when I called they said they didnt have her. My niece saw her picture on thier web site and I was lucky enough to get her back. Also, tell the school bus driver who serves your area. They driver all around there and see a lot. Praying you find your pet soon and safe.

Praying Max is found!!! As a fellow Saint Bernard owner, my heart goes out to you. God bless your search.

Dogs use there noses to find thier way. Get out there with some items from the home like his blankets and toys. If he can find the scent he can find his way. Im am not an expert but im sure there are hunters in the area that could offer better advice. Good luck to you.

I haven’t seen Max but I’m praying for him to return home or for someone to find him safely and “in time”. my heart is aching for the owner.

Please check with your local animal control. Max may have been reported to them by a concerned citizen.
