Woman Grazed By Homeowner’s Gunfire Sentenced For Walnut Hill Burglary

January 15, 2014

A woman has been sentenced to five years in state prison for burglary in which she and her alleged accomplice were shot by the Walnut Hill homeowner.

Teresa Sunday, age 35 0f Century,  pleaded guilty to charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft of a dwelling. She was sentenced by Judge Michael Allen.

On May 17, 2013, Teresa Sunday, having been acquainted with the victim, contacted and invited him to meet her a local pool hall. After the victim left his home on Rockaway Creek  Road in Walnut Hill , she and her co-defendant, 33-year old Ricky Dewayne Taylor, broke into the victim’s house  and began removing items. The victim unexpectedly returned about 4 p.m. and caught Sunday and Taylor in the act.

The victim held them at gunpoint with a .38 caliber revolver and contacted the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. As the victim was speaking with dispatchers, Taylor lunged toward him. The homeowner fired a .38 caliber revolver, striking Taylor in the leg and grazing Sunday on the left cheek. Taylor was alert and conscious when he was transferred to LifeFlight to be airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

Taylor’s jury trial is set to begin later this month.

To start alot of people are saying him and her should have both been killed, I guess you yourself have never done anything wrong and nobody you know and care about have committed a crime. I thank God everyday that he didn’t die when he was shot. Leaving his kids without a father. I don’t know who you allare that says all of my friends are in jail. Some of past associates are but none of my friends. Me and Ricky have both changed our lives around and no longer hang with bad influences that can get you into these situations.

First of all, ricky is my dad and missy is my mom. None of my moms friends are in jail, and Ricky is a great person and wonderfull father. He knows he has to pay for his crime but me Haley and Cory and my mom love him and will stand behind him.

Missy….Her kids have never been left alone & they are good kids ONLY because she doesn’t have the responsibility of taking care of them; they are with someone else! They made “A” mistake.. No mam..they BOTH have records a mile long!!!! They’ve NEVER had to pay for their mistakes. Time for you to get new friends huh…..aren’t ALL of yours in jail..when will you learn????

I don’t want the Middle East to be my role model for concepts of justice.

Theft is evil but I am not ready to go the mutilation route just because that’s how they do it in Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan or any of those other lights on the hill for humanity. It would do me more harm than it would do her if I started chopping off limbs.

BillyD, You hit the nail on the head, well said. She better be glad the home owner was caught off guard or is a terrible shot because she should be in the ground right now and so should her partner. I hate a thief and feel they should have a hand taken off when they steal like they do in the middle east or be branded with the word thief on their cheek. That way everyone will know what she is before she can take advantage of them.

I really don’t see why her children are even a part of this conversation. They’re great kids, and Teresa’s mom does a FANTASTIC job raising them, considering her age.

  7. Billy D on January 15th, 2014 2:17 pm

blah, blah, blah…. her kids have never been left alone….blah, blah……she’s a good mom…..blah, blah…… no she’s NOT a good mom if she does things like this. Good mom’s don’t go to jail for robbery…..good mom’s are working hard to help raise the kids, not robbing someone for a freebie. Good mom’s are making sure the kids do their school work so they get an education and have a chance when they get older. Good mom’s sacrifice things so that the kids have the best that can be provided for them from the clothes on their backs, the home they live in and the values they are given and raised by. You don’t have to be wealthy to be a good parent. You don’t have to be a stay-at-home mom to be a good parent. You don’t have to have a “significant other” to be a good parent. You DO have to know the difference between right and wrong though. Stop making excuses for her. THAT’S one of the problems….EVERYONE has an excuse for this type of garbage behaviour. I feel for the kids and whoever now has the responsibilty of raising them. Hope this “mom” does her time and learns something from it.

Bout time. This same young lady stole and wrote thousand of dollars worth of checks from one of my family members. She has stayed in trouble for years and some how always avoided conviction.

Kayla, nobody was judging her kids, read comments again.

So her partner in crime is shot in the leg and same bullet hits her in the cheek.
    Interesting.
So per Kayla, she takes her children along on these criminal adventures?

Finally she is caught. Several years ago she came thru the backdoor of my grandsons as his wife was changing clothes from coming home from work and this lady got her purse off the table, ran and my granddaughter never got anything back out of it. She had to go thru so much to get all the replacements and credit card was used but NEVER FOUND. I’m glad she finally got caught. I hope this will keep her out of the community for a long time.

@ ” talking about her children that is none of your concern them (those) children have never been left home alone”.
Did she take them to the pool hall and the residence to be burgularized? Now the taxpayers will have to support the children, but it’s none of their concern?
Do you really expect the people paying the bill to sit quietly by and not be outraged at this?

  13. missy on January 15th, 2014 11:09 am

First of all her children have never been left alone. They are great kids. Teresa messed up but it was nothing like what this says. If y’all read the other3 articles on north escambia about this incident they are different. And I pray every day that Ricky’s trial goes good. Yes they committed a crime and need to payfor a it but not forever. Ricky is a great person and father. Everybody who knows him knows that.

  14. Jessica on January 15th, 2014 10:47 am

I know this family and have for a long time, she is getting punished for what she did. Her children are well taken care of by her mom and she does a great job. Only God can judge. Leave her mom and children out ur mouth. You don’t know them or what they been thru!

  15. kayla on January 15th, 2014 9:31 am

Ok for y’all talking about her children that is none of your concern them children have never been left home alone her mom has had them children since they were babies they are my cousins and ya she done wrong she should have to pay bit I don’t believe in judging others there is a better person who will do the judging

  16. Atmore on January 15th, 2014 8:22 am

I feel sorry for her children too. Maybe now they will have a better influence in their lives and not follow mom’s example.

  17. Bobbie McCormick on January 15th, 2014 8:00 am

Maybe this will turn her around I doubt it though cause it’s prison a place where you can get drugs and other stuff to freely..I feel sorry for the children who are having to going through this but thank goodness they have a loving grandmother who is there for them. I feel for her as well..

  18. M in Bratt on January 15th, 2014 7:58 am

(her children need her so bad) from a prior comment. Why do her children need her? She obviously leaves her children unsupervised to go break into people’s houses, and there is no telling what other criminal activities she is involved in. With an example like her, her kids are probably better off living with their father, or in foster care.

  19. John on January 15th, 2014 7:45 am

    @ Sara
She should have thought about her children before she went on this crime trip. The problem with individuals like her is individuals like you feeling sorry for them and protecting them and always making excuses for their actions. She just may straighten her self out after the prison time but I doubt it. Will also pray for her.

  20. Terry Snellgrove on January 15th, 2014 6:32 am

It’s about time she pays for her wrong doings

  21. sara on January 15th, 2014 6:05 am

Its soo crazy. Bless them through there turn out her children need her so bad ,,,,, it’s oh so sad…..Teresa will be in my prayers…..

More people are arming themselves to protect their property and their families. I am surprised more burglers haven’t been met with gun fire.
