Sexual Battery Suspect Arrested

January 16, 2014

An Escambia County man wanted in connection with a sexual battery on a child has been arrested.

Russell Adam Cannon, a.k.a. “Adam” Cannon, 31, of Pensacola was arrested Tuesday night and charged with sexual battery on a victim under 12 years of age.  The incident occurred in October. Police were contacted after the four-year-old girl told a relative Cannon had put his hand inside her panties.

Cannon also was arrested in 1999 for having sex with a 12 year old female.  At this time, police have not identified any additional victims.

He was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $10,o00 bond.

Several years ago, when I was a Freshman in high school, now I am 29, this man raped me, I was a virgin. I filed a police report and prosecuted him. The damage and embarrassment that came from me reporting the event caused me to move out of state. I had DNA evidence against him. Some how- he ended up not being charged. The investing officer treated me as though I was some child of poverty who made a mistake and was falsely accusing this man. It was very traumatic. My point for sharing my story was that I was his first victim. I did the right thing, and had our justice system worked properly he would have never had an opportunity to do this again. This saddens me. These poor children who were failed by a corrupt system. This was preventable. Wow… I’m just at a loss for words now.

This is a jump to judgement group, it seems. The child was scratched in an horse playing incident with the Mom close by. Out of state father wanting custody and out from under child support. Mom also arrested for failing to report. Father been trying everything to get custody. Judge set low bond because of the lack of evidence. Stories in the news all the time about people being released after years in confinement for crimes they were later proven innocent.

Who cares what his age is.21,31.He,s a pervert and should be in jail. How many children have to be molested before getting this piece of —out of society.

Perhaps the best thing would be for this guy to be remanded into the custody of the judge who released him on such a low bond.
He could be a live-in residence with the judge and be the baby sitter / caregiver for the judge’s children or grandchildren.

    >>He isnt 31, information can be found on jail view.

He *is* 31 according to two news releases from the Pensacola Police Department, and according to his case record with the Clerk of the Court. The jail relies on information provided by the suspect at the time of the arrest.

It is disgusting that people charge with sexual abuse against children get a simple slap on the wrist.

I am in awe that they only set a $10,000 bond. He doesn’t deserve jail time for messing with a 4 year old, he deserves a good old fashion lynching!

This is such a sad situation. I pray for the little girl. I hope and pray there were no other victims. Since this is his second offense, he should rot in prison! Seems he didn’t learn a lesson the first time!

It should be asked what moron would set his bond at only $10000, meaning he could pay a bondsman $1000 and be out of jail! AND this is his second time around the bases on the same offense???

  11. Just sayin' on January 16th, 2014 9:04 am

First, read that it states that he was charged with sexual assault on a victim under 12. It does NOT say that he was convicted. This means that the first arrest should not even be mentioned. Therefore, he is considered innocent of the first accusation.

Second, have you ever seen one of those situations in which two parents are fighting for custody of their child and they say things that aren’t true to try to win? That’s what happened here. Don’t be so quick to judge until all the facts are in.

    @ mom0f3
    I agree 100%.

  13. Dad on January 16th, 2014 7:43 am

I agree with mom. How many times will he have to do this before he is off the streets. Obviously he is sick and will most likely do it again. Think about it judge it could be your daughter or granddaughter next time. Morally we owe him a fair trial to confirm the situation But being a prior sex offender he should be sitting in a cage until he is giving such a fair trial He had no buisines being g any were unsupervised around a child. If these new allegations are true hopefully the punishment will fit the crime

I agree with you…momof3, and this is his second offense???? WHAT THE HECK !!!!!!!!!

Released?! And only a $10,000 bond?! Whomever the judge was should be completely ashamed for giving such a low bond let alone a bond at all for this monster! I have a four year old daughter and if somebody touched my child and was released I guarantee you he would miss his court date… because mommy and daddy would have handed him his sentence personally.
