Molino Museum Opens (With Photo Tour)
January 26, 2014
A grand opening was held Saturday morning for the new Molino Museum inside the Molino Community Complex.
The museum features a variety of displays depicting life in Molino, local education, the railroad, logging and other items from Molino’s rich history. There’s also a display devoted to Baseball Hall of Fame member and Tate High graduate Don Sutton.

Saturday afternoon, Lil King, president of the Molino Mid-County Historical Society, hosted a presentation on “The History of Molino” followed by a special museum tour.
With its location just 25 miles north of Pensacola, the Molino area, including the old town of Molino, played a vital role in the area’s settlement and development. From its start as a Spanish mission in the 1700s, an important mill town during the Industrial Revolution and into the modern era, Molino’s history is the story of life in rural Florida and how it has changed over the years.
The Molino Community Complex — the former Molino School — is located at 6450 Highway 95A. For more information, call (850) 587-5011. The museum is open 10 am. until 4 p.m. Monday-Tuesday and Friday-Saturday. It is closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

We will be adding displays in the later part of the year. There is more to come as we try to keep it fresh and interesting.

This is wonderful. Thanks to all who made our museum possible. It would be great if more people who own relics of long ago would contribute to the museum. We all benefit when we all work together.
I’m sorry, but seeing a typewriter in a museum just makes me feel old!
VERY cool.
I’ve been using the Molino Branch Library since it opened, and this is a valuable added feature. Meant to check it out on Opening Day, but maintenance issues prevented my attendance.
Now if we could somehow utilize a room or two of the old Barrineau Park School (a beautiful old building in its own right) for an adjunct showcase, perhaps highlighting the agricultural/timber/hunting history of the area, it would go a long way toward preserving a portion of its interlocking history with Molino, the “Little Town on the Big River”.
I was thrilled to see so many people at the Historical Museum, some were younger people who were interested in what was there! There were people who never knew we had a Community Center that could be rented out for events. There were people who actually went to school there and were happy to see this lovely old building being used and enjoyed by our community. And of course, there were all the people who have worked so hard and contributed so much to make this happen. Thank you to all of them! Thank you William for putting all the articles and photos on Northescambia.com so that people who couldn’t get there could still see this!
