Summer Dance Workshop Offered At Byrneville Community Center

A Summer Dance Workshop will be offered at the Byrneville Community Center June 9-13.
Classes will be offered as follows:
- 8:30 – 9 am — Pre-ballet (ages 3-4)
- 9:15 – 10:15 am — Ballet I (ages 5-7)
- 10:30 – noon — Ballet II and Jazz (ages 8-10) 0-3 years dance experience
- 12:30 – 2 p.m. — Ballet III and Jazz (ages 9-teen) 4 or more years dance experience
Proper dancewear and dance shoes are required. An optional Summer Dance Workship t-shirt will be available for $15 at registration time. The registration deadline is June 2. Contact Heather Leonard’s Danceworks by email at hldanceworks@gmail.com or on Facebook.
Flood Warning Continues For Escambia River Near Century

The flood warning continues for the Escambia River near Century through Friday evening.
Sunday night, the river stage was 17.6 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast; the flood state is 17 feet.
The river will continue rising to near 17.7 feet by after midnight Monday and will not begin to fall below flood stage until early afternoon Friday. At 17 feet, considerable flooding of lowlands occur.
Career Academies Recognized; EWMS Culinary Academy Takes Top Honor

Escambia Meetings Planned On Updated Zoning Ordinances

To reflect changes at the state level, Escambia County is in the process of rewriting its Land Development Code (LDC) to create an efficient and rational document to guide expansion within the county.
As part of this rewrite, the county will attempt to condense its current 36 zoning classifications into 14 new classifications, the first full overhaul of the zoning ordinance since its original adoption in 1996. Rewriting the LDC is intended to simplify and modernize the document to include mixed-use and “live, work play” zones, an increasingly popular option within the county, as the original zoning map was not parcel-based and created many split-zoned properties.

Previous meetings were held in Molino and at the Escambia County Central Office Complex. No changes will be made to zoning classifications on Pensacola Beach and Perdido Key, so no public meetings will be held in those areas.
Flomaton FFA String Band, Floriculture Teams Place At Districts

The Flomaton High School FFA recently competed at a district competition in Enterprise, AL.
The Flomaton FFA string band placed fourth; members were Nik Shivers, Stone Lehmann, Jose Escobedo, and Logan Hendricks. The Floriculture team placed third and will compete at the state competition. Members of the Flomaton Floriculture team were Haley White, Kristin Fillmore, Toni Simmons and Tiffany Hardy.

Suns Hand Wahoos Fifth Straight Loss

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos rallied back from three runs down to tie the game at four in the top of the ninth Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, only to have the Suns respond with the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning. The Wahoos have now dropped five straight. Rich Poythress singled home J.T. Realmuto from third with two outs in the ninth handing the Suns the 5-4 win. His game-winning hit marked the second day in a row Poythress has delivered a big hit against the Wahoos. He delivered a three-run home run on Saturday night.
Travis Mattair came up with a clutch two-out two-strike two-run double down the left field line to pull the Blue Wahoos within one in the top of the ninth. A batter later, Juan Duran’s infield single scored Yorman Rodriguez from third to even the game.
The Suns were in control early with three runs over the first five innings behind Marlins No. 1 prospect Andrew Heaney. Pensacola got to him for a run in the third when Rey Navarro singled home Brodie Greene, but the lefty retired the final 13 batters he faced. He was finished after 7.0 innings allowing just the 1R/ER while matching his career high with nine strikeouts.
Daniel Corcino started strong for Pensacola striking out the side in order to open the game. He then labored through his 4.2 innings. He walked and struck out five and surrendered 3R/ER on five hits. Drew Hayes took the loss allowing 2R/ER over 1.2 innings despite three strikeouts. Though he only faced and retired one batter in the top of the ninth, Greg Nappo earned the win for Jacksonville. The three game-tying runs were charged to Suns closer Nick Wittgren. He gave up 3R/ER on five hits in just 0.2 innings.
Navarro and Rodriguez led the Wahoos offensively with two-hit games in the losing effort.
Pensacola will look to get back in the win column on Monday with RHP Robert Stephenson (1-1, 5.56) on the mound against Suns RHP Angel Sanchez (0-3, 4.20). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. CT from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Extension Service To Present ‘Tomatoes At Twilight’

Escambia County Extension, Santa Rosa County Extension and the University of Florida/IFAS Extension will present the “Tomatoes at Twilight” workshop next week.
The event is a workshop for farmers interested in learning about small farm tomato production. This hands-on workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 24 at Santa Rosa Extension, 4253 Extension Road, Highway 182 in Jay from 4-6 p.m.
Discussion topics will include:
- General tomato production
- High tunnel tomato production
- Heirloom tomatoes
- Water and nutrient management
- Disease Control

Barbara Ann Hart

Barbara Ann Hart of Cantonment was born in Pensacola at Baptist Hospital on August 10, 1960. She passed away at the age of 53 on Friday, April 18, 2014, at Baptist Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hill. Barbara was employed in the medical records department at Cardiology Consultants.
Barbara graduated from Tate High School in 1978. She loved her family, her church, her dogs, Cocoa and Duke, and country-western music. Barbara was always a hard worker and would help any friend in need. She loved working with flowers and making things beautiful around her home.
Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, David Hart, Jr.
Survivors include her father, Warren D. Hart; mother, Roberta N. Hart; one brother, Daniel Ray Hart and his wife, Betty Ann Hart; one niece, Rebecka and her husband Jacob Grice and their children Jackson and Alyssa.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor David Shofner officiating.
Interment to follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include Jacob Grice, Jackson Grice, Col (Ret) Steven D. Martin, Bill Ryland, James Earl Vickery and Donald Gainey.
Harley Walter Lister

Harley Walter Lister, 77, having lost his battle to cancer on April 19, 2014, entered into the presence of his Lord. He was born in Atmore in 1936, a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church since 1975, and a longtime resident of Mobile. He is preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Nettie Varnum Lister; siblings, Houston Lister, Beulah Lister Wickland, Arnold (Shag) Lister, Cindy Lister Mannson, Danny Edward Lister; and granddaughter, Metesha Lister.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Robbie Jean Lister; five children, Norma Jean Shepherd (Mike), Walter Raymond Lister (Jean), Deborah Lynn Murphy (Paul), Lori Ann Reid (Bobby), and Ronald Keith Lister; sister, Eula Wickland, Las Vegas, Nevada and brother, Wilber (Bill) Lister of Beecher City, IL; 14 grandchildren, Nevin Eckerman (Mandy), Nicklaus Eckerman(April), Haagon Lister(Kristy), Tiffany Lister(Zachary), Avery Lister, Robbie Lister, Ryan Lister(Amanda), Lynn Pugh(KJ), Joshua Murphy(Nicole), Jessie Murphy(Sandy), Judson Murphy, Michael Reid, Mark Reid, and Mason Lister; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers please give donations to Sadd’s Hospice. Our thanks to Sandra, Sonya, and Wilsie for their care of our loved one in his final hours.
