Stamps Going Up To 49 Cents

December 26, 2013

The Postal Service is raising the price of a first class stamp by 3 cents to 49 cents as of January 26, a move approved Tuesday.

It’s a temporary rate hike, up to two years, aimed at helping the post office recover from decreased mail volume brought on by the economic downturn that began in 2008.  The postal service needs to recoup $2.8 billion in losses.

Forever stamps, good for first class postage regardless of the future rate, can be purchased at 46 cents until January 25.

If we made JUNK MAIL pay the same postal rate as our mail cost to send, we would have less junk mail and a profitable Postal Service.

Seems fair to me… After all, aren’t corporations “people ” too?

More complaints about the price of a stamp than worrying and praying for someone that just lost there home beacauseof a fire on Christmas, people some have it worse than others, prayes for the family that lost there home. I can buy a stamp.

Instead of raising the postage, lets try lowering the wage. This way everyone has some skin in the game…

@BB- heard about the weather and no shipments moving? UPS-FEDX and all of the rest grounded.

My daughter mailed a package out from near Dayton, OH on the 19th, 2 day priority and as of yesterday, the 25th, it was still sitting in Cincinnati, OH. So much for the great delivery service! At lest she could track it and locate it. Ones she sent to Texas didn’t make it on time either.

@ Robert S. I’m with you 100%. We have a good postal service and due to Congress they have lost money over the last few years. It’s odd people will fuss about one or two cents– but not say anything when the beer companies raise their prices. Those who love to use the internet to buy/pay bill and so on should think about Target and their cards. Target is not the only company hit by hackers. People had their accounts cleaned out and then got very little help from their banks. People trying to get a little of their money were limited to the amounts of 100. to 200 dollars no matter what their balance should have been. Some times the “new/better and improved” is more of a problem than what it was suppose to fix. PS: I and none of my family or friends work for the USPS.

Wouldn not mind paying it if my letters actually arrived.

Personally, my Thanks to USPS for their delivery services at a reasonable cost.
Mailed a number of boxes for Christmas and some as far away as Seattle WA.
One box weighed near 10 pounds and mailed Priority for $18.35 and I cannot drive to Tallahassee and return for that in gas money.
Also sent a couple of packages through one of the private companies and the cost was to me, high, near $25 each with no special time-sensitive delivery.
Always tell the USPS window clerks, “Thanks for saving me gas money”.
Kids especially like getting things in the mail.
Just sayin’ hope the USPS does well electronic mail and such is not always personal.
