Mom Charged After Cocaine Found In Elementary Student’s Backpack

December 4, 2013

A Cantonment woman is facing a child abuse charge after her daughter showed up at her elementary school with plastic bag of cocaine in her backpack.

Shana Christina Beck, 29, was charged with felony child neglect without great bodily harm. She was released Tuesday night from the Escambia County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Students tipped off administrators at R.C. Lipscomb Elementary School that a student had a suspicious bag of white powder in her backpack.  The student told school officials and deputies that Beck and a friend were in their car the night before when they dropped the baggie and began a frantic search for it. The student said the baggie must have fallen into her open backpack, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report.

The white powder in the bag field tested positive for cocaine. The Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the incident.

Let me start off by saying this woman is a very good mother and I know her personally. she was unaware the drugs were present. she does not now or has she ever used drugs. She spends all her time taking her kids back and forth to church, violin lessons, horseback, and soccer. She has been totally devastated over this. Yes she should choose better friends to associate with I agree but that is the only crime she has committed. That very same child she “NEGLECTED” volunteered to go to jail so her mom didn’t have to. Through all this Mrs. Beck has only focused on making sure her child was sheltered from the media and assured that she had done the wrong thing. Her child is the one suffering from this website and the news have no one any r4egards for her her own teacher had this website pulled up during school as the child came home crying because of it. Sometimes bad things do happen to good people, and good people make bad choices. AND as for whomever stated above that you knew her and that she received a slap on the wrist again you obviously do not, for she has never been in any trouble before. She is a college student struggling to take care of three children, whos mother just died and she sold her own house to move in with her father since he can not see well. You don’t know her or her situation so don’t sit around and gossip and pretend that you do.

    michelle,
People who deal in illegal drugs are either using or dealing.
Saying she is not using is not high praise.
Even if you mean to say only her friends are dealing and using around her children, that is still not high praise.

    David for praiseworthy parents

This just sickens me .!!!!I hope she does not get her kids back what type of mother are you ? People need to think about there kids and how there desisions are going to affect there child cuz her daughter probably going to think drugs are ok and that all parents do that , those children need to be put in a home that will teach them what real loving parents are..

I know these people. These poor kids are going to have to deal with the reputation and wrong doing of their parent. I agree, she should not have been let out of jail on bond. Maybe, if she would have had to spend some actual time in there she would realize where her actions have led her and fix her life. But as usual, she gets a slap on the wrist so I expect this behavior to continue. Hopefully, DCF will get those kids out of there soon.

WHAT , shes got the “kids” delivering the “crack” , one would have to wonder – is any of it laying around the house ? Remember , its NOT the childs fault – its those “goofballs” that raised her !

Drugs are destroying our society. People cant get jobs because they are drug tested therefore they stay home. Then they steal for money. Their kids are raised in it so guess what they do?
