Christmas Parade Tonight In Century

December 12, 2013

For the first time in several years, a Christmas parade will roll through Century this evening.

The parade will line-up beginning at 4 p.m. on Front Street and will begin at 5 p.m. The route will go from Front Street to Jefferson Avenue, turn onto Pond Street, cross Highway 29 to West Pond and turn onto Highway 4 to Lake Stone.

Additional festivities will take place at Lake Stone with Christmas Carols, lighted floats on the lake and Santa Claus.  BBQ sack dinners will be available for a $5 donation, the Lions Club will offer hot chocolate and cookies and the Century Lodge will have homemade fried pork skins.

For more information, call the Century Chamber of Commerce at (850) 256-3155.  For a list of other area Christmas parades, click here.

Editor’s note:  Portions of the parade route are unlit and very dark, especially West Highway 4 from Industrial Drive to Lake Stone where there are few, or even no, street lights.

To the Parade committee; you are welcome. Glad to see it come back.
To sam, Hashtag and Nice Idea; There are at least 6 school bus stops between Lake Stone and Hwy 29. The kids leave Ernest Ward at 4 p.m. so they are getting to Century between 4:30 & 5:00. It was a huge inconvenience for the buses and drivers today. But, it is a learning process and hopefully next year will be better. :-D

great idea for a parade. the route is questionable and the time. gonna be dark, and lots of kids not home from school. hope everything works out, it is a great idea.

They should wait and start at 5 because that’s the time all the kids will just be getting off the bus at 4 something .. That’s what I think they should at least do .

  4. Nice Idea But.... on December 12th, 2013 8:52 am

This is a wonderful thing to have in Century! But I do agree with Puddin …There are several school buses that run Front Street and Jefferson Avenue to Pond between four and five o’clock in the afternoon. Hope all goes well and no one is inconvenienced or upset over this. Great to have a parade to celebrate Christmas here in Century.

This is our first year planning a parade and Boy! have we learned a lot. :)

Thank you Puddin for that input. We’ll keep it in mind for next year.

Also good to note that Hwy 4 West is more of a pass-through to get to Lake Stone where the festivities will be. Please plan to enjoy the parade on the side streets and then join us at Lake Stone to visit with Santa.

    Merry Christmas!

While thats all very nice, did anyone consider that the kids are coming home from school at that time? Now how are the buses going to get down the parade routes to get the kids home? And the high and middle school aged kids cant go, because they will be on the school buses. Wouldnt it have been better to do this around seven? All the kids would be home from school, and parents would be home from work.

Love the idea of a parade, but the time and location could have been better.
