Hazel J. Lassiter

Hazel J. Lassiter, 84, of Jay, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus on November 15, 2013. She was born on November 2, 1929, and later attended Jay High School. Hazel worked at Central High School for many years prior to retirement. She was a resident of the Cobbtown community, and was the Pastor of the Cobbtown Holiness Church for many years where she led countless to the Lord. She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening, quilting, singing, playing the piano, and fishing the local waters with her late husband. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She led a selfless life in the service of others and her God.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, J.D. Lassiter; her parents W.C. Edeker and Ada Riley (Edeker); two brothers, Winford Edeker and Robert Edeker; one daughter, Gail Smith and one grandson: Ken Lewis.

Mrs. Lassiter is survived by one brother, Stan Edeker (Joyce) of Houston, TX; three daughters, Carolyn (Allen) Goolsby of Brewton, Brenda (Kenny) Watson of Jay and Barbara of Jay. Added to her family tree were nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers are her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.

A visitation will be held at Cornerstone Church (formerly Jay First Assembly) in Jay on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Dan Hellums, Brother Tim Floyd, and Brother Jim Lassiter officiating.

Burial will follow at Cobbtown Holiness Church Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to C.C.C. and Emerald Coast Hospice.
