Century Celebrates Veterans

November 10, 2013

The Town of Century held a Veterans Celebration at the Nadine McCaw Park and Veterans Wall on North Century Boulevard.

Guest speakers included Congressman Jeff Miller and Chad Smith, a Northview High School graduate who told the veterans in attendance that he is joining the Air Force and will honor their legacy.

Special entertainment was provided by the Byrneville Elementary School Chorus, featuring first grader Maddie Mae Driskell.

Thank you Ms. Cheryl. I had an idea they were related.

The gentlemen with Congressman Miller are my father in law Herbert Boutwell Jr, WWII veteran, his oldest son Herbert Boutwell III, 2 tour Vietnam Veteran and my husband Benjamin Boutwell, Desert Storm and GWOT and USAF retiree. Other veterans represented were former Mayor Bennie Barnes USMC Korea and Mr. Bryan Vietnam. I’m sure there were others who I don’t mean to omit, just didn’t catch names. Thank you to all who have served.

    >>It’s a shame you didn’t get the names of THE VETERANS. After all, it is supposed to be for them.

I’m not sure how that would have been accomplished or practical. There’s no master of list of all veterans in the Century area, and those at the event were not walking around with a bright yellow “VETERAN” label on them or anything.

But we do appreciate them all for their service.

Thank you so much for Honoring the Veteran’s. My husband Preston Bryan Jr, got to meet a Vet that was in Nam when he was and the same place. They really enjoyed there visit. This would not have happen if The town of Century and Jacke Johnston hadn’t put this together. Good seeing you Leslie, Thank you all.
