Allan was someone I’ve thought about through the years and barely ever knew him from his shirt time living in Orlando. He was very special.
    RIP brother.

How can anyone expect anyone to “maintain” control and not crash when someone unexpectedly pulls out in front of someone. That was a ridiculous comment.

  3. Rachel Bassler on November 12th, 2013 12:06 pm

over all you are suppose to have control of your vehicle at all times . But I was not there & will not judge . I pray to God for all involved . God Bless All & be with both family’s ,in JESUS HOLY NAME I PRAY, AMEN

look the driver of the semi loaded in flordia just to let everyone know and was on his way home. please dont judge him he feels bad enough. someone lost their life and he is having to deal with this as well and it is not easy. he was already loaded with brand new cars. so please instead of laying blame lets all hold all the families up in prayers and let the police do their job.amen

    REGARDING:
“This shouldn’t be about fault. Someone lost their life and someone’s life may change cause of this accident. People just need to pray for both families and not argue. ”

I know you seem to think this is a social network for the people suffering loss to be comforted, but it is a news report and people are reasonably discussing causes of this event and ways to avoid future ones — if any. We all regret the loss of life and associated suffering. We would like to reduce its occurrence in the future. That is a good function of this site.

Those who don’t want to read it are not forced to do so.

    David for truth

I never comment on here. But I must Allen was a great friend, and a son who lost his life in this accident. For people to blame a buisness is crazy. This shouldnt be about fault. Someone lost their life and someones life may change cause of this accident. People just need to pray for both familoes and not argue. Family and Friends dont want to read that. R,I,P, Allen you will be dearly missed and were loved by us.. Praying for Allens family. Please post when arrangements have been made.

I happen to be the granddaughter of the man who owns the business that the semi pulled out of. It is a family business that has been around since before I was even born. Family meaning that my father has worked there since he was in high school when it was first getting started, and basically all of the staff that work there are family. My father, grandfather, and uncles work their assess off to make a living. The location is not the original but the business is still the same. It is a repair shop. They fix semis and they fabricate and repair car trailers. For someone to try to blame my grandfathers business for a car accident that occurred regardless of who was at fault is ridiculous. To call for it to be shut down is ignorant.

  8. Leigh on November 9th, 2013 8:58 pm

I travel Pine Cone and 9 Mile daily. Semis and large trucks pull out in front of cars from the Shell station and the business involved in this accident every day. They don’t seem to want to wait for enough room and just expect you to slam on he breaks so they can proceed as they wish. I do, because I don’t want to die, but they are WRONG and must be held accountable when an accident occurs. God bless the victim and his family.

Merri you really need to get your facts straight. That is not an auction house. The man who owns it is a very caring and nice family man he works hard at keeping his business going. I feel real sorry for the loss of the guy in the pick up truck, but do you think maybe he was doing something that preventing him from seeing that semi with all his lights on that trailer. He was already half way out in the road when the accident happened, and as for the little bar there on the corner he deserves the right to respect to looks like your out to take down anyone who is trying to make a living the way you feel is wrong.by the way the junk next to the road is not even that mans property so get your facts straight and go after him to clean up his trash because that guy has tried to get him to for years you have a nice day and my prayers go out to all involved in that accident
    .

  12. Vickie rozier on November 9th, 2013 12:57 pm

By our house, my husband and son saw before police arrived :-( they need a light there.

  13. me on November 9th, 2013 9:56 am

They are called “accidents” for a reason people. It’s not like this man said “hey let me pull out and ………..” , remember someone lost their life and another is forever changed for it.

Although, a red light might help in some ways I watch people constantly run red lights due to cellphones, eating, talking, etc. Heck, one man here in town loves to drive down Hwy 29, turn onto north “W” street reading a book. I’m not kidding….this idiot has a book resting on his steering wheel and he’s reading it. It took me a good ten minutes one day to even work up the nerve to pass him in the other lane because he was swerving constantly. BEWARE of a darkish tan truck if your in this area, it just might be him with the latest best read.

  14. Marie on November 9th, 2013 6:38 am

What was the truck driver doing ,if he pulled out on to a main road either he was not paying attention or he just was not looking for on coming traffic. Sounds to me like the truck drivers fault.People are just to much in a hurry to get down the road.

  15. mike allison on November 9th, 2013 1:23 am

my sympathy to all involved. the guy in the pickup was doing way more than 45 mph to do that kinda damage

  16. Wharf Rat on November 8th, 2013 7:05 pm

    @ Merrie, etal,

Traffic lights are good in many scenarios, but, when an accident occurs, it takes unbiased witnesses to state who had the “green” light. Otherwise, everybody had the green light. At a stop sign intersection, at least you know who had to yield the right-of-way.

Under FSS 316, nobody has the “right-of-way,” you are required to yield the right-of-way. Drivers who have taken the right-of-way, have found their last chance to avoid an accident, was a very expensive, and sometimes fatal decision. Civil Attorneys love this.

  17. Michael Lee on November 8th, 2013 6:57 pm

Everybody talking oh this had happened all that other mess this man is dead there’s nothing nobody can do about it all that arguing over what happened ppl kill me with that

  18. David on November 8th, 2013 6:44 pm

I would be for an idiot red light. It wouldn’t stop them it would draw them like moths to a flame. No regard for any for any laws does not mean a redlight would stop an idiot.

  19. Buddy on November 8th, 2013 6:21 pm

If your gonna comment you should at least have your facts straight its a repair shop not an auto auction. And the junk is next door not at the repair shop.

  20. Bob on November 8th, 2013 5:42 pm

Not that it really matters, but the auto auction is located on W Street. Just because a truck leaves with cars on it doesn’t mean their is a auction there. I sure hope you don’t believe everything that you read on the Internet is 100% accurate. Not going to comment on this anymore, just thought it was assanine for someone, Merrie, to think it would be a good idea to close a business down because of a traffic accident prone area. People have been getting in wrecks there for a long time.

  21. Just sayin on November 8th, 2013 5:25 pm

Just saying this is a 45 MPH zone. Don’t just blame the truck driver. That is not a 45 mph crash. Sorry for the family of a lost loved one.

  22. Dixie on November 8th, 2013 5:02 pm

I travel Pine Cone to Nine Mile Road daily. Then reverse order back home from work. The semi-trucks enter Nine Mile with no patience.
They pull up from the rear of their lot and just turn. The autos being hauled are most likely going to the Manheims Auto Auction or being transported to their new location from the auto auction. Several years ago, that area was the auto auction. The driveway is too close to the intersection of Pine Cone. Maybe a different location for the driveway would help and also help the drunks pulling out from the bar. Too many times Ive seen some almost mishaps there. Another area: the truck stop – the semi’s pull out and think nothing of blocking the road in both directions. Why they don’t care – they have enough steel surrounding them while cars and trucks get smashed in. Prayers are needed for both families. The loss in one family and the outcome in the future for the other family. Please drive safe in that area. A traffic signal would help those needing to turn off or enter Nine Mile. There has to be a high count of accidents before the DOT places a traffic signal anywhere. I was told that Navy Federal paid the expense for the one located on the east side of I-10 and Nine Mile Road. They wanted their employees to get to work safely without having to pull onto the busy Nine Mile Road. Makes sense anyway.

  23. paul on November 8th, 2013 2:38 pm

Bob.. The address is listed as an auto sale & repair shop and there was a truck with cars on it leaving the location.. Merrie is correct.

  24. doofus on November 8th, 2013 2:30 pm

How do you know if the pickup truck had it’s lights on?

  25. Bob on November 8th, 2013 1:53 pm

Merrie, if you are going to comment on something, you need to get your facts correct. There is not an “auto auction house” located there.

  26. Henry Coe on November 8th, 2013 12:59 pm

As far as fixing that intersection, before putting up a light, that road needs to be at least 6 lane with a continuous flow of traffic for 9 Mile Rd east bound in the two outside lanes or traffic backing up to I-10 will make for a really big messy bottle neck.

They also need to widen the I-10 west bound exit that backs up traffic on to I-10 or give all that new Navy Federal coming off the interstate a traffic a ramp that goes over 9 Mile rd. Something like the Beach Over Pass in Gulf Breeze. We are growing out here in Beulah and engineers need to start thinking ahead. It would make for creating a few jobs as well as fixing some traffic issues.

The other think that needs to happen, that I think is in the works, is putting on ramps and exit ramps at Beulah Rd & I-10. That would take a chunk of residential traffic and Landfill traffic out of the I-10 & Nine Mile Rd area.

  27. Merrie on November 8th, 2013 11:55 am

You are correct Mark it is hard to get out of Pine Cone but as you can see that semi is hauling cars from the auction house across the street from Pine Cone Rd. It pulled out onto 9 mile road going west toward the interstate and the dodge ram was going east on 9 mile.

  28. Mark on November 8th, 2013 11:14 am

That is a horrible intersection, especially if you are traveling west on 9 mile. People coming off Pine Cone seem to think if there is ANY gap between vehicles on 9 mile, that is an opportunity to pull out and NOT accelerate!

I travel that route daily to enter 10, and 2 or 3 times a week I will be traveling the posted 45 miles per hour, and someone will pull off of Pine Cone right in front of me causing me to slam on my brakes! I came within inches of hitting someone’s rear once, and they had the gall to flip me off!!

A light will do nothing unless it’s one of those that is posted NO right on red, because those people will continue to do the same thing.

  29. Merrie on November 8th, 2013 10:22 am

What he was pulling out of is an auto auction house. I saw this same thing happen one morning on my way to work. A man going to work on 9 mile road from Alabama and I was sitting at pine cone and 9 mile and the big rig truck just pulled out. I guess he didnt see the pick up truck. It killed the driver of the pickup truck.

The semi drivers think they can just pull out from the auction house and from the kangaroo station and you should stop on 9 mile and wait for them. They completely block 9 mile road until they can turn left onto 9 mile.

Some of the contribuiting factors from the last accident were the junk the auction house has piled on the front of their lot and the semi trucks that are parked in front of the business. It may not block vision but it doesnt help people on nine mile distinguish threats that may pull out into the road.

I do not think that a light in that area is going to make a difference for this type of accident. When we do get a cop there they just give local people who may speed a little on pine cone or not come to a full stop a ticket so it is locals who are getting the ticket NOT the truck drivers. Maybe the auction house getting shut down might work. At least that would be the worst offenders removed from the equation.

Oh when I was interviewed by the truckers attorney for the accident I witnessed they asked me, “Why do you think the pick up truck didnt stop when he saw the Semi pull out’? I told them last time I looked the pick up had the right of way and why didnt their client wait until the road was clear before he pulled out at a high rate of speed. Jerks!

  30. Margielu on November 8th, 2013 9:01 am

Most important of all are prayers for comfort for the pickup driver’s grieving family and friends. It’s obvious this was a horrific crash, and a family has lost a dad, brother, son, or husband.

It appears the semi driver is at fault, although we do have to let the investigators determine what series of events happened to cause the crash.

Regardless of cause, putting up more stop signs and signals every time there is a fatality isn’t the answer. If…..again I say, IF, any driver is inattentive and either pulls out in front of a vehicle or is operating a vehicle in a manner that causes a crash, they’re not observant enough to see or heed a signal, sign, or warning device.

ALL drivers — every single one of us –needs to be operating our vehicles with a clear head, undistracted, fully realizing that WE are operating a ton or more of metal down the road with enough force to destroy what gets in our path. I witness DAILY folks idiotically crossing multiple lanes at the last moment, rushing to get somewhere so fast they blow through a school zone, riding the bumper of the vehicle in front of them (who, more likely as not, is tailgating the vehicle in front of them, and so on), or is driving as if they own the roadway and could care less about anyone else’s life when they do so.

Traffic signals might help at dangerous or poorly-engineered intersections and roadways, but they aren’t always the answer in situations where a lack of driving skills and /or carelessness are the cause of a crash. We all need to be better drivers, all the time.

  31. John on November 8th, 2013 8:25 am

What we need is a red light at every intersection, yes at every intersection. This iam sure would cut down on all traffic deaths.Maybe with a traffic light at every intersection all that are asking for them when a death occors will get what they ask for and more. Really folks a red light. All that is needed is for all drivers to pay attention.

  32. paul on November 8th, 2013 8:04 am

Between cellphones and people being in such a hurry our roads are not too safe.. People need to be aware of their driving, It’s a life and death situation..
I spend most of my time on a motorcycle and ride like I’m invisible Not invincible..

  33. Lynne on November 8th, 2013 7:47 am

I also am asking for a light. You have merging lanes from a four lane to two and interstate on ramp, a gas station with food and gas for truckers. All come together to Pine Cone which just turns into a single lane.. There have been so many wrecks you can not see when merging onto the single lane. Also, people are stopping to turn onto Pine Cone I think they put in lights after so many deaths how sad. If you r coming off Pine Cone u can not see well what is coming from the west. I myself have almost had a wreck there I also saw this one it was worst than the picture you knew some one died. I had my little one age 10 he could tell someone died very upsetting. My heart goes out to the family and the driver. The coast was probably clear but its a big truck by the time the full truck was out there a car came over the hill. Please help request a light before more deaths.

  34. Greg on November 8th, 2013 7:39 am

So let me get this straight. You want to put a redlight on a driveway? It’s terrible someone was fatally injured but a redlight isn’t the answer. Especially on a driveway.

  35. Rosanne on November 8th, 2013 7:17 am

I lived in that area for 18 years and my parents still do. It is a very dangerous area at Pine Cone and 97. I agree there needs to be a light there. Not sure if this is exactly where wreck was though.

  36. catherine on November 8th, 2013 6:07 am

The semi driver will lose his cdl because he pulled into him IM sorry for the family

  37. Jane on November 8th, 2013 3:52 am

Unfortunately whether you are in the right or not the larger vehicle usually wins. This is very sad for the families of both drivers.

  38. Everett on November 8th, 2013 1:51 am

I live right off pine cone rd near 97. They need a a light there.
