Man, 51, Killed In Thursday Highway 95A Crash
October 31, 2013
One person was killed in a single vehicle traffic crash about 9:50 Thursday morning on Highway 95A.
The accident happened in a curve at C&C Hauling, just north of McKenzie Road in the Cottage Hill area. The Florida Highway Patrol said Lonnie L. Davis of Pensacola was northbound on Highway 95A in a Mercedes-Benz convertible when he failed to negotiate a curve and collided with a power pole on the shoulder.
Davis, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle as it continued on to collide with a second utility pole and a fence. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office had received a call about a domestic dispute involving Davis at a home on Welcome Circle, a short distance from the crash site. Before deputies arrived on Welcome Circle, Davis was already gone.

I would like to send my condolence to lonnie’s family. He will be missed dearly
Rest in piece Lonnie, no one deserves to die that way, so unexpected, te lady at the store said you had just used her phone 5 minutes before.why were u n a hurry. R.I.P
Sad to hear. Its a dangerous curve. Not sure why he was speeding but not the area to be doing it in.
My boyfriend and his coworkers witnessed the wreck, they were in there company tree service vehicle. He said the man was going around 80 mph and almost struck there truck but lost control and hit the light pole and got thrown out of the car.. He and his coworkers ran to him but said it was too late.. My boyfriend is completely heart broken for the man and his family. My prayers go out to his family
Just curious; is the same Mr. Davis from Ensley that has a son on Tate’s football and baseball team?
Mr. Lonnie was a cool man. It hurt my heart to hear this happened to him. We just saw him the other day, laughing about the sugar cane he had hanging out his benz. It was always a fun time when he stopped by our house. He will be greatly missed. R.I.P Mr.Lonnie, Ensley won’t be the same without you. I wish u could have finally seen me graduate college next year.
So sad. Our heart-felt condolences to his family. We’ve lived in Cottage Hill for 40 years and people have been dying on that curve ever since we moved up here. Seems no matter how much we plead, some folks are bound to take that curve faster than they should and faster than the posted speed limit.
I am so sorry this happened I know god don’t make no mistakes but this is such a tragedy. Lonnie will be missed ,my heartfelt prayers go out to his family and friends, may god give them comfort and strength during this sad time.
Lonnie will be missed but not forgotten God bless him and give his family peace
The speed limit on this stretch of road is 45 mph. Since we moved here 6 years ago there have been 9 or 10 people run thru our fence trying to negotiate that curve while driving too fast…..slow down!!! We are so sorry for the loss of Mr.Davis , our prayers are with the family.
This man that was in this accident was my step dad it hurt me so bad that he had to leave us like this my mama is so hurt that was the love of her life imma always keep him in my prayers yu will not be forgotten man I just talked to him last night
I can agree, Clearly speed was a factor in this accident, but there isn’t a high speed limit in that curve. The Speed limit is 35 mph in the that curve, I do believe. It would be awful hard to do this kind of damage to a power pole, with that sized car, while adhering to the posted speed limit.
I take this curve all the time. I know that car, but not the guy. I’ve been afraid myself a couple of times cuz I live off McKenzie and going around the curve to come to a stop to turn on McKenzie, I’ve been almost rear ended more than once. from ppl speeding around that curve. prayers go out to his family.
As sorry as I am he is no longer with us, Seat-Belts are in a vehicle for a reason. Not a decoration or a suggestion.
Sad, so sad. My heart and prayers go out to this man and his family. Who knows what caused this man to have this accident, could be a number of things. I live in that area, and have taken that curve many times with no problems. regardless of why or what, I’m just so sad for the family he left behind. Prayers from my heart and soul.
>>>I hope the family has been notified-that car is an easy identifier.
We don’t run vehicle pics or publish names until after the family has been notified.
My prayers go out to the family! I live right down the street from this curve. There are lots of wrecks there!
I drove by this right after it happened. Appeared he never tried to make the curve with the way the path was off the road. Most likely text or not paying attention. Prayers go out for his family and loved ones
The key words in this is “the driver was ejected”. Seat belts and air bags can give you a chance to walk away and live. While they are not always the answer they sure beat being thrown from the vehicle.
Prayers for the family
Prayers to the family!! I hope the family has been notified-that car is an easy identifier.
Lord, Please help the family! It seems like there are a lot of deadly(serious) accidents in the northern part of the county. 2 lanes roads and a high speed limit make for a dangerous drive…My heart goes out to all victims in accidents!
Prayers are with the family. May God give them strength and comfort during this time.
heart breaking….Lord please be with the family and bring them peace ,whom ever they may be at this tragic time.
