Front Street Residents Petition Town For Speed Bumps
August 11, 2013
Residents of Front Street in Century have petitioned the town’s leadership for speed bumps to slow drivers down.
A petition signed by 27 Front Street residents was presented to Mayor Freddie McCall and the Century Town Council asking for the speed bumps. The mayor will explore the issue and arrange for installation of the speed control bumps.

They don’t work. They never put them where they’ll do the most good. All they do is distract drivers so they don’t pay attention to their driving and knock your car out of alignment.
@ CW: if somebody is breaking into my house the only thing that worries me is how fast the medical examiner can arrive to ID the intruder. Police presence can also slow down traffic and has the advantage of enforcement.
Speed bumps slow down police, ambulances, and fire trucks. I see it all the time on my grandmothers street in E Brewton.
If someone were breaking into your house would you want speed bumps slowing down the police?
@ just curious,
I believe it takes a petition signed by 66% of the affected residents requesting. Call the traffic division.
Anyone know what it takes to have the county (Escambia FL) install speed bumps in a neighborhood?
There used to be speed bumps on Front Street until they repaved it. I think that they should have put more in when they were done with the repaving project. Hecker Road is in dire need of them. Having Pensacola State College here is wonderful, but there are people speeding all day long up and down this street! There are plenty of children on this street also that would benefit from some speed bumps.
They really do need speed bumps. There are children riding there bikes and walking. Some people drive way to fast to be able to stop in time if a child rides there bike in the road or if they are walking or running. If you don’t have children or grandchildren you may not understand why this is important, just having a heart for any children can make you want all to be safe.
I bet within six months of having the speed bumps installed the residents will be signing a second petition asking them to be removed. Speed bumps always seem like a good idea to slow traffic. The problem is the speeders don’t travel the street every day as the residents do. Soon the residents will tire of the bump, bump, bump.
