Chief Financial Officer Candidate Has Filed Bankruptcy Three Times

August 17, 2013

The newly-minted Democratic candidate for state chief financial officer has filed for bankruptcy three times, The Florida Times-Union reported on its website Friday afternoon.

According to the report, Allie Braswell most recently filed for bankruptcy in Orlando in 2008, after having done so twice in South Carolina in the 1990s.

According to the Times-Union, Braswell said the first filing in South Carolina was dismissed because of a mistake, leading to the second. Braswell said he “used bankruptcy as way to responsibly pay my debt” and that his financial problems would allow him to empathize with voters.

“Honestly, my story is of a regular guy,” Braswell told the Times-Union. “I’ve felt the pain that a lot of people feel.”

Braswell is the first high-profile Democratic candidate for a Cabinet post, though Thaddeus “Thad” Hamilton has filed for agriculture commissioner. Hamilton drew 2 percent of the vote for that office as a non-partisan candidate four years ago. Braswell is the president of the Central Florida Urban League.

Who leaves a military career after 13 years and under what circumstance.

    Bankruptcy X 3 = financial irresponsibility.

Why would they even consider someone who can’t manage his own finances?

    @ D H Green…..
    ‘Preciate your clearing that up.
So, wonder exactly how many times does that make Charlie “flip-flop” Crist “Newly Minted” Republican-Independent-Democrat ________ (fill in the blank). And he wants to be the next Gov. — Again.

I agree with others here, anyone who is wanting to be the state’s CFO should have a better record than this guy and have their own house in order. This one does not seem to meet those points..

Hey, maybe he thinks he will have better luck controlling the state’s spending than he did his wife’s, lol. Obviously, he has too many weaknesses handling money to be seriuosly considered as a “Financial Officer”. Seriously folks, is this the best that Florida has to pick from????? How about hiring a teacher, married with kids, who has to budget an unimpressive salary, paid once a month? I guaranty that he or she has a better understanding of how far a dollar really goes and how to pay all of their debts on time. No excuses.

    ANSWERING:
” “Newly Minted Democrat”……what the heck does that mean?”

It means you left off the main word.
Read it again with the next word included:
    “The newly-minted Democratic candidate ”

It means he has just filed as a candidate.
    He was already a Democrat.

David also a Democrat, just not newly minted

“I have felt your pain” is the same statement Hitler spoke. I understand. Never words like it is my bill and I will pay it. We are hearing far too much of this lately.

Braswell and George Touart are prime candidates for office in Chicago or Detroit.

“Newly Minted Democrat”……what the heck does that mean?
Is this dude like the “Upside of Democrats”?
Sounds like an ideal upstanding citizen who “feels the pain” — the pain of being found out.
Amazed Rick Scott has not snatched him under his wing and appointed to a cabinet post.
Maybe he can fly into the Pensacola “International” Airport and be squired around town by our upstanding local officials.
My goodness, where are the REAL persons who could do good jobs in public office?
Seems the past many years one has to have a record of disgrace or arrests to be a viable candidate….Help.

I guess this is the new twist on setting an example. According to another article on this page it seems that our law department employees have the same twist of setting an example.

This individual can’t handle his own finances with out declaring bankruptsy I sure don’t want him as a CFO. If he filed for bankruptcy in South Carolina he sure didn’t learn very much about responsibly paying his bills. If you responsibly pay your bills bankruptsy isn’t an option.

Sounds like the ideal candidate for their party.

No. He needs to run in Democrat strongholds where anything goes to win.
