Cantonment Man Jailed On Multiple Burglary Charges

August 3, 2013

A Cantonment man is behind bars facing several felony charges for burglarizing a couple of storage sheds.

Cory Wayne Driver, 24, was charged with two felony counts of burglary of an unoccupied structure, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and criminal mischief.

Driver allegedly burglarized two sheds in the 1200 block of Jacks Branch Road, stealing vehicle batteries, radiators and numerous other automotive items. He then allegedly sold several of the items at a garage on Nine Mile Road for $137. The owner of the garage is good friends with the victim, recognized some of the items and notified the property owner of the theft, according to an arrest report.

The property owner was able to pay the $137 and recover his belongings.

Driver remains in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $13,000.

We all have our opinions of this young man. Good, bad or indifferent, no one should judge another human being. That is the job of Jesus Christ. Tread lightly when you challenge Jesus Christ’s authority. He loves the unloved & He does not take it lightly when one of His children is treated like less than a human being. Remember, one day we all have to stand before Him & be judged by Him. None of us know what plan God has in store for us but ultimately it is to glorify Him and to do the tasks in life that He wants us to do. His greatest 2 commandments are: Love the Lord with all your heart, body & soul; then love your neighbor as God loves you. Always remember that God is watching you too. Please think of what you say and be a little kinder to ours. My love is in Christ alone.

    @our system is sad

In your world the united states make “tons and tons and tons of money” from prisons.
In the real world the United States owes $17,000,000,000,000. I don’t know if you know what that figure is, but trust me, it’s a lot more than “tons and tons and tons of money”. The only people making a profit are the lawyers.

@ Leo the Guy.. he was a child when he started getting in trouble .. and yes we as united states make tons tons and tons of money off of our prisons.. please read. The justice system.. we are the only country with multi prisons in one city.. and state .. we pay for hard core criminals to sleep better in prison and be feed better than our stoliders or our homeless veterans .. so come on get real.. I could go on and on… my point is he was in the system as a kid that maybe we could have helped. Period! !!!

Ha I’d still shoot whoever it was on my property. It’s their own problem for trespassing. Just cause he has a family doesn’t mean there are no consequences. I have a clean record and don’t steal BTW. Don’t come to my house I’ll fire and not miss.

THOU SHALL NOT STEAL, does anyone follow that anymore?

I’m sorry lady, but one look at your husband’s record, and I can tell you, he’s not a “good guy”.

What if the shoe was on the other foot; Wonder how this young man would feel if someone came into his property uninvited and stole from him something that he had WORKED hard for.Bet he would be screaming for justice right along with his family. @post this you should be embarresed!

  9. get real on August 4th, 2013 10:36 pm

The family can say what they want about him being a good person…just don’t forget his reputation speaks for itself just like his record. He is very well known in this area for ALL of HIS wrongdoing! So keep bailing him out & this will continue.

  10. Post this on August 4th, 2013 10:19 pm

Jerry, He still is a good person and I am proud of him regardless of what any one of you say. You obviously don’t know him very well because if you did, you wouldn’t be on here saying the things you have. This is just a story everyone has to jump on the wagon about and try to hurt another human being once again. Embarrassed? Not one bit.

This is very sad. He used to be a good kid.

I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, family or not. If you step on my property and steal my things you will be greeted with my gun. I work very hard for the things I have and there is no way in hell i’m gonna let some low life punk take my things.

Darlin, if he were my son, husband or brother he wouldn’t be breaking into someones shed and stealing their stuff no matter what. Do the Crime, Pay the Penalty and that just might be a bullet in the wrong yard. The way criminals are treated now days, its no wonder they never learn.
3 meals and a cot, lay around and watch tv until they get out, then do it all over again.
Turkey cuts off the hands of thieves, how many thieves you think they have now days? Maybe you should throw your blessings towards your loved one rather than someone who doesn’t appreciate a thief.

    @our system is sad,
You sound as delusional as Davon his wife. If you think the “system” actually makes a profit from crime, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Wake up and smell the coffee butter cup. P.S. This boy is well known in his community. :-

  15. not surprised on August 4th, 2013 6:33 am

Regarding: okay the kid has a record>Hes not a kid hes 24.>Its not our system at fault. He is at fault. The system didn’t go out and rob anyone he did that all on his own.How about we man up and put the blame where it really belongs.A thief is a thief is a thief untill they meet Jesus at the cross and really change their ways.Sadly most people only use the religious card to try and get out of jail free.If you do the crime you need to do the time.

  16. our system is sad on August 4th, 2013 12:43 am

Okay the kid has a record .. however once he screws up once our system made it in evadable for it to be a repeat.. we don’t help out young kids the first time.. he has had a rough time, when you have a record you more than likely can’t get a job, finish education without being judge .. poor Guy for not getting help while he was an adolescent…. no he will forever be in a viscous cycle because our jails here are the money maker.

I just have one question what if it were your son husband or brother would you want them shot? Hell no! That is my husband and I would appreciate it if you would all keep your mouth shut! No Need for a neighborhood watch, just a good barking dog, a Big Gun, with a good scope on it. Thats All The Watch You Need, You blast a few of these idiots and they’ll get the message.

Like The Sign On My Gate Says,

    Trespassers Will Be Shot
    Survivors Will Be Shot Again

  19. jane on August 3rd, 2013 5:30 pm

HE NEEDS TO STAY BEHIND THE BARS FOR GOOD THIS TIME!!!!! OR HE WILL JUST DO IT AGAIN & AGAIN !!!!! LIKE HE HAS IN THE PAST !!!

  20. hmmmm on August 3rd, 2013 3:53 pm

I agree neighborhood watches are needed but how do you suppose you have a one on jacks branch rd? It goes for miles and is not a neighborhood. The houses are spread pretty far apart on most of the road so that makes no sense.

  21. Just a thought on August 3rd, 2013 3:38 pm

Lets be reasonable… unfortunately the victim here was the shed(s) owner and fortunately the garage owner followed through to get this thief caught. So why would it cost the garage owner? He’s the reason it came to a positive arrest. Sadly it’s up to the shed owner to get his money back from the perpetrator or a close family member that loves this relative even though he’s went down a dead end street that may be willing to cover for him. This may be a turning point for Cory. Neighborhhood Watchs are a must in this day in time…

  22. LEO GUY on August 3rd, 2013 12:03 pm

Why do so many boys choose to go down that road when they do not have to. The world wonders. :-/

  23. check his history on August 3rd, 2013 9:09 am

Well, if you check his record apparently he enjoys going downtown.

  24. not surprised on August 3rd, 2013 8:20 am

Things always have a way of coming back around.hope the family isn’t to embarrased over this.

  25. yup on August 3rd, 2013 7:53 am

why did the property owner have to pay to get his own stuff?

  26. dennis on August 3rd, 2013 7:46 am

Would y’all have the guy who bought it tell the thief no and then the owner would have gotten nothing back? The battery was worth what he paid the thief. If a friend buys some of my stuff back that has been stolen I will pay him for it.

  27. Jacque on August 3rd, 2013 7:32 am

After pulling up his record on Clerk of Court. You wonder how this kid is out on the atreets to do this and not behind bars. He has manu felony charges. SMH

  28. diane on August 3rd, 2013 6:21 am

The owner had to PAY to get his stuff back. ??? Who in the world did he have to pay.? The owner of the garage, the friend….!! So you get robbed, then you have to buy your own stuff back…. I know the owner of the garage would also have been out the 137…but make the jerk that stole it pay it back….. That should have been part of his bond.

  29. SW on August 3rd, 2013 5:55 am

The OWNER had to pay to get his own property back? That is an outrage!

  30. Jane on August 3rd, 2013 5:44 am

Some “friend”! I’m glad he was caught…there are too many burglaries around here and the people who work hard pay for that! Get your neighborhood watchs going folks, and watch out for these bad guys!
