Mr. Barry seems willing to take on controversial issues. How about considering the issue of mandatory garbage pick up for the rural areas of Escambia County. The responsible citizens of the north end already take advantage of the available garbage service that is here, but the trashy people still dump beside the road and in the woods. The transfer site on Hwy 99 is exorbitantly expensive for a resident to utilize. Mandatory pick up and a more affordable drop off site would both contribute to a cleaner, more attractive North Escambia County
The public deserves an answer as to why Hwy 99 between Walnut Hill and the Alabama state line can’t seem to get repaved. This highway is narrow, rough and full of pot holes. This is a heavily traveled road especially by school buses between Northview High, Bratt elementary and Ernest Ward middle. It puts everyone traveling on it in danger. This is not the first time this section of highway has been brought up. Why can’t this public safety hazard be addressed?
I WORK OUT OF TOWN AND SOMETIMES OUT OF THE COUNTRY. I HAVE NEVER MET MR. BARRY BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT HE SHOWS AN INTEREST IN OUR DISTRICT. I CAN LOOK UP ON NORTH ESCAMBIA AND MULITPLE SITES TO GET INFO ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON. IF PEOPLE REALLY WANT TO KNOW , THERE ARE WAYS TO FIND OUT. JUST SAYIN’
Barry is doing a great job. I have seen him at the meetings and he is always prepared. The other commissioners are something else one owns more real estate in Escambia county, I think that would affect your opinions. The other moves from one area to another to get reelected and comes across as a insurance-used car sales man. There’s another who comes across as a union leader. There’s another who is like a community organizer . Barry is the only one up there that looks like he is for the little man. thanks for fighting Barry. Oh I forgot the county administrator He is like the movie the never ending story part 1 2 3 4 I think you get the point.
Haven’t seen him around Molino for quite awhile………….
This is at least the third town hall (may be more?)
I watch the Commission meetings regularly and Steven Barry is very much participating. He seems to come to the meetings prepared on the issues before the board and he has had the courage to ask questions as to why certain procedures are done. I was really impressed when he had looked into Purchasing procedures and was suggesting things that could be changed.
He is respectful and asks great questions on the dais, as well as when you contact him personally. He has not allowed the more dominant commissioners to silence him. Financial information is obviously his strong point. He takes the time to think about how BCC decisions will set a precedent for future issues.
I have watched him stand up for the citizens on many issues, especially the 4H issue, and stopping the current interim administrator from campaigning for the permanent position during meetings. He has also asked for better online access to meetings and information.
Even though I may not agree with every vote, I feel like District 5 has a commissioner who listens to all speakers (I don’t think I have ever seen him get up and leave his seat during the meetings?) and who acts in a respectful manner.
If you have watched any BCC meetings recently , that is a needed quality.
Area 5, if you haven’t seen a lot of press coverage on him, that may just mean that he is doing his job and not seeking the camera or the controversy. As a regular BCC watcher, that seems to be my impression so far.
REGARDING:
“he’s our commissioner, for how long now? Never hear anything out of him! ”
that’s your choice if you choose to not pay attention
David for good citizens
@Area5. You may have missed the news stories on NorthEscambia and PNJ and the IndependentNews. He has stood up for District 5 on a number of issues. He is also not afraid to say NO to CC Gene V. This is not the first town hall meeting he has had. Hope you can make the next one in Century and ask any questions you may have. Any time I have called him he has returned my call and followed up on what we talked about when possible.
District 5 seems to have a very pro active commissioner. He sure is standing strong for the 4H kids!
Thanks Steven!
Funny how he’s our commissioner, for how long now? Never hear anything out of him! Where has he been hiding? I’d like to see a story on what he’s done for our area!
