Back To School Bash: A Helping Hand For Hundreds

August 25, 2013

Hundreds of families received a helping hand Saturday during a Back to School Bash in Century.

Families received bags full of free clothes, boxes of healthy foods and snacks, and free school supplies. Community organizations were also on hand with information about the services they offer, often for free. And free hot dogs and snow cones added to the festive atmosphere.

The event was organized by Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, the Florida Department of Children and Families and Americorp. Farm Share distributed enough food for 500 families, including snacks, water and cereal.

Organizers say they hope to make this an annual event for residents of Century and the surrounding communities in the North Escambia area.

Lets just hope that it was truly the needy people who actually received these gifts. We know how this usually turns out, and its just a shame!

I’m thinking that this being a planned event they had time to make plans to be there, whereas most accidents that I’ve seen before were unplanned. Since channel 3 is in the south end of the county unless it was a fatality, most accidents up here would probably be cleared up before they could get here. On the other hand, with North Escambia being in the north end of the county, they have much less travel time to get to a accident in Century, Molino etc. Depending on time of day and traffic it can sometimes take almost an hour to get from where channel 3 is located just to Cantonment.

When we have accidents or whatever up in century channel 3 news gets there information from northescambia.com but when there is something free up here they are all up in it!! Why is that??
