Town Of Century Honors Edith Page, Longtime School Secretary

July 9, 2013

The Town of Century has issued a proclamation honoring the life of Edith Joyce Page, a longtime school secretary that passed away on June 30.

Page, a resident of Molino, served as school secretary for Carver High School and Carver Middle School in Century for 43 years. She also served as church secretary for the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in the Cedartown community near Molino for over 45 years.

The proclamation issued by Century Mayor Freddie McCall honored Page as a “leader and icon” in the community, with a “heart and love for Century and its children”. The proclamation also recognized Page because she was “known to live her role of Christianity….putting the well-being and happiness of others before her own”.

Funeral services for Page, 73, were held Saturday at the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.

Ms. Page was a very nice lady. I always had fun with her at Carver Middle School, she was the best secretary ever. She would always cracks jokes with and find a way to make you smile when you would go to the office to run errands for the teacher. I will truly miss her.

too bad the city waited until she dies to honor her. What a great honor she would have had to have been recognized while she was alive. She was a great lady.Don’t wait until someone dies to tell them how they have influenced your life.Roses are for the living.

My deepest sympathy to the family of this truly wonderful woman. As a former student of Carver Middle and the daughter of a teacher there, I saw a truly remarkable example of someone who walked their life with grace. Her smiles and kindness touched so many, she was a blessing to many. Rest in peace dear lady.

Mrs. Paige was one of the sweetest ladies I ever knew. She loved all the students and would do anything to help them. I had the utmost love and respect for her. May she rest in peace and may God give her family peace and comfort in the days ahead. Heaven has one more beautiful angel today!

Mrs. Edith always had a smile on her face and an encouraging comment. I did not know she had passed away, but I am so honored that I knew her. She was one of the sweetest ladies that I have ever known. Thank you Mayor McCall for seeing that she receive this.

I was so sad to hear of her passing. Ms Edith was always what our mothers taught us a true lady was supposed to be….sweet, kind, loving, elegant, but with a backbone of unbreakable steel. That’s what she did every day of her life. I am so proud that Century chose to honor her life in this way. I know that her family is proud, not just of this proclamation, but of the life she led and the example she set for us all.

Ms Page treated generations of Century’s children as if they were her own.
We were blessed to have her in our lives and those of our children. She will be missed and thought of fondly for many years to come.

I’d like to thank the Mayor for doing this. Ms. Page was a wonderful friend to me and my children while they were growing up in the school system. She was always calm and knew how to handle most any situation. I’d like to thank her family for sharing her with us all those years. Our loss is surely Heaven’s gain!
