Shoplifting Suspect Throws Infant At Pursuing Deputy

July 17, 2013

An Escambia County woman faces child abuse and other charges after she threw a three month old infant towards an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy who was trying to stop her for suspected shoplifting.

The baby, who was still in her infant carrier, was not injured.

The incident took place Monday around 7 p.m. in a parking lot at the Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther. Investigators say 23-year old Ashley Taylor Wright went into a fitting room at Dillards with clothing items. She came out without the merchandise and the items were not in the fitting room. She had hidden the two pairs of Miss Me Jeans and a pink Hurley shirt, valued at $261.00, in a baby stroller, deputies said.

As a deputy approached near her car in the parking lot, she began yelling at her husband to leave. Two small children were also in the car. When the deputy tried to get Wright out of the vehicle, she put the baby carrier in front of her saying “You will have to shoot through the baby to get me.”

Wright ran from the vehicle, then threw the 14-pound infant, still in the carrier, towards the deputy.

Wright fell and began fighting the deputy as he tried to take her into custody. She was transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for treatment of a laceration to her head.

She has been charged with petty theft, child abuse without great bodily harm, and resisting an officer without violence.

    ANSWERING:
“Why is it every time Florida or Pensacola makes the national news, it’s because of crap like this?”

Because people acting reasonably isn’t newsworthy.

    David for better mothers
    more news from afar
    rather than from nutty neighbors

Why blame the husband, he might have stayed in vehicle with other kids & not known what was going on, of course the baby should have been buckled up wig seat belt on seat not just strapped in carsat on her lap., but thankfully she had sense to buckle it in or the baby would have been hurt by being thrown out.

I am utterly speechless at the actions of this woman! To throw your INFANT at a cop, and tell him to “shoot through the baby” to get you are the actions and words of someone who should have their children taken away, and be forcibly sterilized so she cannot have another baby!!

NO SECOND CHANCES FOR PEOPLE WHO ABUSE INFANTS/CHILDREN!!!

Now excuse me, this story makes me want to vomit…….

Can you imagine the shock that deputy felt? If someone threw a baby at me I’d take it and run! So many of us would love a baby around the house again. This story makes me cry.

Two pairs of jeans and a shirt= $261.00? Good grief! Maybe if she tried to live within her means….she’d be a lot better off.

Report says this woman “…began fighting the deputy as he tried to take her into custody.” And she was charged with “…resisting an officer without violence.”..?

I’m sure not a lawyer but seems if someone is fighting a law enforcement officer who is attempting to take them into custody that would be Resisting Arrest With Violence.

Hope the FWB Med Ctr checked her for illegal and unprescribed drugs.
    Poor kids….

She is 23 & one child thrown at an officer & 2 more sitting in the car? What a shame. A child with children who does not know right from wrong. Will her children grow up like her? She needs to be drug tested to and get help on raising children right, maybe a few parenting classes would help.
