Fight Over Xbox: Man Allegedly Strikes Pregnant Mother Of His Child

July 10, 2013

A Century man was charged with a felony after allegedly striking the pregnant mother of his child.

Tevin O’Brian Lane was charged with aggravated battery when offender should have known the victim was pregnant. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $5,000.

The victim told Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies that she got into a verbal argument with Lane over an Xbox — he wanted to play a video game while she wanted to watch a movie at a residence in the 6800 block of North Century Boulevard.

Lane allegedly grabbed her cell phone, took the back off of it and ran into their bedroom. When the victim tried to get the back of her phone, Lane allegedly struck her with a closed fist in the face, an arrest report states. The victim, who is four months pregnant, had a visible injury to the side of her face, deputies said.

Lane denied punching the victim. Instead, he told deputies he tried to leave the residence after the Xbox argument and the victim began pulling at his clothes and tried to force him inside the residence.

    REGARDING:
“It’s based on how many dependents you have, etc.”

And dependents are people who can depend on you, right?

    David,

I just wanted to clarify something. In order to be declared indigent by the court system, your income must be below a certain level. It’s based on how many dependents you have, etc. (An individual making $10 an hour with 2 dependents would qualify.) The court system uses a certain scale to determine if you are able to hire your own attorney or if the courts need to assign you a public defender. Even if you are declared indigent and avail yourself of the service of the PD’s office, you are still required to pay for their services. It’s just a lot cheaper than a private attorney would charge.

He may very well be gainfully employed and simply chooses not to pay his debts. That’s not exactly an uncommon thing these days.

Our society accepts this on a daily basis. I’d be shocked if he does more than a week in jail.

More evidence that America as we knew it is falling apart.
Lovely photo of Mr. O’Brian he’s got that “Wasn’t none of me.” look.
What a wholesome environment for a new baby to come into.
Poor baby…..hope it escapes before learning this is how life is to be lived.

    True.
It’s been nearly four years since the last time the courts determined he was indigent (and even then, he still owes the court $587 per court records). Surely he has found lawful employment since that time.

@Randy, MS Tammy was just basing her opinion on statistical probability (likely hood), see Bayes rule.

Irresponsible behavior by both of them…he definitely needs to be in jail for hitting a pregnant woman, smash the xbox, smash the tv….its never ceases to amaze what people will do over material things…. no regard for life, or mutual respect, both of you grow up…get it together, a child is coming…

WOW, I hope the woman broke the x-box. And I hope she won’t stay with him. I guess while he will wish he had opted to stop for a couple hours to watch a movie instead of all this happening and him missing out for a few days or months :) People please think, a video game just is not that serious! I hope the woman and unborn baby are ok. Sad, just sad…

How can you call him a man?

  14. mnon on July 10th, 2013 7:12 am

There are no Xbox consoles in jail! Instead of chillin for a couple hours to sit through a movie, now you’re sitting in jail even longer. By the time you get out she should sell the Xbox and save it for diapers and formula because we all know you won’t be paying for it. Oh I digress that’s what WIC and Welfare is for, but you can afford a 300+ dollar Xbox 360 and games at 50+ a pop, even used at 10-20+ a pop… must be nice.
