Eleven Children Injured In Molino Hayride Accident

July 12, 2013

Almost a dozen children were injured Thursday night during a hayride accident at the Camp o’ the Pines near Molino.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 11 children were transported to Sacred Heart and West Florida hospitals following the 8:55 p.m. accident.  None of the injuries were considered serious or life threatening. Twenty-seven children and an adult tractor driver involved in the accident were not transported.

Officials said there were 38 children on a trailer being used for the hayride when the arm attaching the trailer to the tractor broke. The trailer collided with the rear of the tractor, causing the tractor driven by 26-year old Andrew M. Reynolds of Pensacola to overturn. The trailer with the children was sent into a wooded area.

Multiple ambulances from Escambia and Santa Rosa counties responded to the accident, along with the Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.

Camp o’ the Pines is operated by Youth Outreach Ministry, Inc., and provides “wholesome fun and recreation for campers” ages 8-12, according to its website.

I have always heard wonderful things about COTP… still do. My friend’s daughter was at camp during the accident and she didn’t know anything about it until I asked her if her daughter was involved after seeing it here. She was not thrilled about not receiving a call… but her daughter did have a good time and will go back.

My Grand-daughter was involved in the hayride accident and was taken to the hospital. This is her 2nd year at Camp O’ The Pines. She loves going to the camp. Sheis sore, which the doctor told us she woiuld be….I just thank God none of the kids were hurt bad!!! I think the staff at the camp handled the situation very well. I agree with what other parents are saying “accidents happen” and this was just one of those freak accidents. I will be sending her as long as she wants to go and as long as she can go….I wanna say thanks to the staff at the camp for looking out for my grand-daughter as well as they did till we got there!!!

My daughter attended Camp O’ the Pines every year until her age wouldn’t allow it. She loved it and would have stayed the whole summer if she could have. For many years this camp has outreached to our children and has been run very professionally. They have been around since the 1950’s and their safety record speaks for itself. My daughter has fond memories of her days at camp and will keep these with her forever. If she could still go I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to send her again. I have no doubt that the leaders handled this situation in the best manner that was possible. This camp is loved by many people and I hope it will be around for many more years!

My children have attended for many years and we have NEVER worried about their safety. This is such a freak accident. I would not hesitate to send my children there and I recommend it to all families with children in the 8-12 year old age group.

My granddaughter has attended Camp of Pines and had a blast! When she read the article, she was very upset and said a prayer for all the families and their children. She would go again at any given time.

Two of my children were also involved in the hayride accident. Unfortunately, we had to find out about the accident from the newspaper. Our kids were scared and one has a hurt thumb. They only notified the parents of the kids taken to the hospital. Good camp, but they should have made 25 more phone calls to the remaining parents. Just saying….
I pray the other kids are okay.

Our kids attended Camp O The Pines every year until they became too old to do so. The Camp is run very professionally and is a wonderful experience for the children. Accidents can happen anywhere and to any organization. COTP has an awesome safety record overall and I would not hesitate to send my kids there again if I could.

My child was involved in the hayride incident but was not hurt. The camp called this morning and allowed us to speak with her. This is her 2nd time at this camp and we have been extremely pleased. The camp is well organized and seems to have handled this accident well.

I agree with Renee. FIRST CLASS CAMP!!!!
My kids have been attending for over 3 years. My daughter attended 3 weeks ago and heading back again Sunday, with no hesitation.
Prayers are with the families of the children on hay ride and driver of tractor.

I hope they’re all okay too :) Camp O’ the Pines is a wonderful place to send your kids…my daughter just went for the first time 2 weeks ago & loved it! She made lots of friends & had a sweet counselor. They have beautiful facilities & lots of staff who were always very friendly & helpful. They learn bible verses & songs plus enjoy lots of fun activities…crafts, paddle boats, canoeing, archery, recreation ctr & more. Plus they get to go swimming & on the water slide twice a day. It is extremely organized & smoothly run. I can’t say enough good things about this camp. I sure hate this happened but I’m sure it was just an unforeseen accident.
