Regional Planning Council Presents 5-Year Rural Road And Bridge Plan

A five-year transportation improvement plan,  including several bridge replacement and shoulder widening projects in the North Escambia area, was presented Monday night to the Century Town Council.

Mary Beth Washnock of the West Florida Regional Planning Council presented the report on transportation projects in the rural part of Escambia County. The projects are expected to take place in the fiscal year 2014-2018 time period.  Several of the listed projects have already been completed, or are currently under construction.

The project plans include:

  1. CR 97A — bridge replacement over Boggy Creek
  2. Brickyard Road — bridge replacement over Unnamed Branch
  3. Fannie Road — bridge replacement over Dead Lake
  4. Pineville Road — bridge replacement over Brushy Creek
  5. Hwy 97 — bridge replacement over Sandy Hollow Creek
  6. Hwy 97 — bridge replacement over Little Pine Barren Creek
  7. CR 196 — bridge replacement over Jacks Branch
  8. CR 99 — bridge replacement over Pine Barren Creek
  9. Dortch Road — bridge replacement over Beaver Dam Creek
  10. CR 99A — bridge replacement over Boggy Creek
  11. Sandy Hollow Road — bridge replacement over Sandy Hollow Creek
  12. Gravel Lake Road — bridge replacement over over Pritchett Mill
  13. Crabtree Church Road — pave shoulders from Sunshine Hill Road to Hwy 97
  14. CR 196 — pave shoulders from CR 97 to CR 99
  15. CR 99 — pave shoulders CR 196 to Hwy 97
  16. Hwy 29 — resurface from Champion Drive to Alabama State Line
  17. East Pond St., Century — rework R/R crossing
  18. Hecker St., Century — rework R/R crossing

    It seems a stretch that does not need work always ends up on the list.

    Why is Hwy 29 being repaved? It is in good shape.

    There are many other roads in North Escambia that need it more!

    Pave the shoulders of Hwy 99? Really? What about the rest of it? Come on Steven Barry show us you can do better than that! Show us you know District 5 extends further north than Muscogee Rd.!

    Yes there are families and people that live in the North End of the County and pay lots of salaries for the county…it is about time…hello…we need this things done soon in the North End of the County…

    “Gravel Lake Road — bridge replacement over over Pritchett Mill ”

    In the mean time, just replacing the planks would be much appreciated and low cost.
