@DHG – How right you are. One of the most stupid advertisements on TV right now is for a car insurance company that makes a point of saying that people should “brake for squirrels” — Not to sound cold but a squirrels life or a dogs life is not worth what the ripple effect of trying to stop for them on a major highway could cause. It is different if the animal is a deer, cow, horse, etc. but small animals running across the road should not cause a driver to risk their life or the lives of others. It may be sad to kill them but at least a family does not have to go to a funeral or pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for hospital bills save a rabbit, etc. — Please folks see that particular ad for what it is and teach your children good common sense.
CONSIDERING:
“The dog was believed to be a passenger in the truck.”
And even if it hadn’t been and irrespective of this particular incident, please folks, don’t risk killing yourself or others to save a dog or other animal in the road. Make up your mind right now that if you can’t avoid them without endangering others, they are dead. Mourn now and later but only mourn the loss of the dog, not the loss of your loved ones or your arms or legs or anything else you might lose.
David for timely decisions
>>>when I passed thru about 1130 pm I saw some kind of animal on a blanket by side of road- this was not mentioned. maybe driver tried to avoid this animal or was the animal a passenger in the truck?
