FHP Looks For Clues In Jay Hit And Run Wreck
June 18, 2013
The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a man they say became aggressive and fled the scene of a wreck Monday afternoon in Jay.
The FHP said the driver of a full sized pickup truck was westbound on Highway 4 approaching Booker Lane about 3:30 p.m. when he failed to stop before he rear-ended a 1997 Ford 250 waiting to make a left turn.
The driver of the first truck became verbally aggressive before fleeing the scene, according to FHP. The truck was described as a 1990’s, light brown, full sized Chevrolet type pickup. The truck has front end damage. The grill and headlight were popped out at impact, but stayed connected to the vehicle. The driver was described as a white male, 5-foot 7 inches, white male with a star tattoo around his navel.
Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Trooper J.M. Tucker at (850) 484-5000 ext 330 or email JoshuaTucker@flhsmv.gov.
The driver of the pickup that was rear-ended, 52-year old Zane B. Burkhead of Jay, was not seriously injured in the crash.

Glad Zane is ok, but my first thought was he saw a Star Belly Sneech……. Wow hope they catch him
The driver and vehicle description sound alot like an aggressive vehicle/driver that travels regularly on Hwy 95A from Hwy 29 northbound at least as far as Quintette Rd/184. The male is about mid 30’s or looks it anyway, drives shirtless, passes on the grassy shoulder, speeds through the Jim Allen Elementary school zone during the school year, drives like a bat outta hell, and swerves and fishtails all the way up 95a northbound crossing the solid yellow line with not a thought of anyone’s safety. The tailgate on this guy’s truck is the one with the large silvertone/chrome panel ob it, not just the Chevy bow tie. It looks to me like a 92/93 C-1500 or Silverado.
It’s 4:25 am and I just got my first chuckle of the day reading this! Yes, I whole heartedly agree with Mrs. Betty; if your going to commit a crime, keep your shirt on if you have a star tattoo around your naval! If I were a betting person I’d say we will know the perpetrator’s identity before the end of today; it’s not too often you come across a man with a star on his belly ha-ha!
What can I tell ya Ms. Killam, some peoples kids!
The behavior and description of the vehicle seems like the same guy I had a confrontation with once last year around the same area. I attempted to legally pass him headed west on hwy. 4 and he would speed up & force me off the road. Then chased me into town riding me like a bumpersticker. I pulled off into the exprezit but he continued on his way like a coward. I remember the truck being a 2004-07 black Chevy Silverado. Could be different guy though.
Thinking—if you are going to be an aggressive driver and leave the scene of an accident you caused—-maybe you should keep your shirt on if you have a star tattoo around your belly button! Almost funny!—-Glad the man he hit was not seriously injured.
