Century Man Convicted In Attack On Mother Of His Child

June 10, 2013

A Century man has been convicted and sentenced for attempting to strangle one of the mothers of his children.

Maurice Austin, 24, was convicted of battery by strangulation and sentenced to 24 months probation by Judge Michael Allen.  He was also ordered to attend a domestic violence intervention program and have no violent contact with the victim.

The victim told Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies that she was driving near Cottage and Zion and was forced to stop when Austin jumped in front of her car earlier this year. She said Austin forced his way into the driver’s seat, drove to Zion Street and parked the vehicle at a friend’s house.

The victim claimed Austin hit her with closed fists, pulled her from the vehicle by the hair and strangled her until she passed out. Deputies noted bruising on  the victim’s legs, shoulders, chest and arms.

Austin faced similar allegations back in July 2012 when another victim, then pregnant with his child, told deputies that she was walking down Jefferson Avenue near East Street in Century when she was attacked by Austin. Charges in that case were dropped after the victim refused to testify against  Austin.

Unbelievable sentence by Judge allen. This man is a repeat domestic violence offender. Probation for 24 months is ridiculous. I guess a prison sentence “might be warranted” only after he kills someone.

Maurice – Quit beating women and people will quit “judging” you. BTW if I was the judge you would be in jail and not out on the screets! But since you’re a “pretty good dude” I guess it’s OK then… NOT!

    REGARDING:
“If people won’t cooperate with the system, it sure makes it hard to get bad folks off the streets.”

If you consider how many crimes he has already been convicted of, it’s hard to complain at the ones who don’t cooperate. If you consider how many crimes they had him dead to rights on and didn’t bother to prosecute, it’s hard to complain at the ones who don’t cooperate.

It’s obvious he’s a very loveable person or so many women wouldn’t keep involving themselves with him and so many prosecutors and judges wouldn’t keep releasing him onto society.

    David for better people

At least it sounds like this woman was willing to testify against this stand up guy. If people won’t cooperate with the system, it sure makes it hard to get bad folks off the streets.

Great Idea, Judge Allen perfect solution to this violent offender. A slap on the wrist will teach him a lesson!

Big man beating up women, one day he’s gonna pick on the wrong person and we won’t have to worry about putting him on probation.

dont know if the judge had to legally ignore the previous “dropped charge” of battery, but its quite difficult for the citizens to ignore it when seeing that austin recieved only 2 yrs of probation, a mandatory domestic violence program and…to top it off, must have no violent contact with the victim….that means to me, that he can still have contact with the mother of one of his children (that he battered), just cant have “violent” contact with her….geeeeesh…is this judge going to have egg on his face in the future? i think so….on the positive side: now austin can get a job and support his multiple children…..yea right. WAKE UP GIRLS!

This guy has been arrested 8 times in the past, good job judge. I guess you are waiting for him to kill someone!

24 mos probation only? Sounds like way too light of sentence for the amount of danger he poses.

    Dear GOD, probation?
