ECSO Employee Placed On Leave; Controlled Substances Missing
June 19, 2013
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has placed an employee on leave after discovering errors in the handling of evidence and missing controlled substances.
“The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has discovered some irregularities in the processing of evidence by an employee assigned to its evidence facility,” the ECSO said in a prepared statement Wednesday morning. “(An) investigation has revealed that the employee mislabeled evidence and made clerical errors processing evidence. In one specific case, an item containing controlled substances processed by this employee cannot be located.”
The State Attorney’s Office has identified the employee as Ramon Simoneaux, and they say 280 oxycodone pills disappeared while he was he was on duty.
He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The State Attorney’s Office has been notified of the issue and is reviewing the case. The ECSO is in the process of reviewing all evidence procedures and is auditing cases involving Simoneaux.
Further details have not been released as the Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.

In my opinion the sheriff is doing a very GOOD job & the “good ole boy system” has been put to a rest. There have been many let go of their positions that were based on the “good ole boy system” and replaced with the ones who should’ve been there to begin with.
The person whose case is contingent on this evidence for conviction is worried.
The person charged with possession of the pills is relieved. What luck!
Where are the Cameras I thought they would be in every area, why not make it a two man show, not allowing just one Deputy to be in charge of this area and any other. That will make an honest man out of any one, Cameras and more than one person,…..
WOW .. not too longago there was money missing
It appears the checks and procedures done what they were intended to do and revealed the issue as they should. I believe Ramon was trying to make a little extra cash.
Do you think it is a zero mistake world. Do you know how much they process. I say way to go they discovered the issue and made corrective action and holding someone accountable. Seems like a few of your children could use to lean these lessons.
An organization with strong leadership doesn’t normally have this many problems. Looks like the good sheriff has a little more explaining to do…..
It’s NOT a Cop, it’s a non-sworn employee. I know many frequent posters here LOVE bashing law enforcement…sorry for your disappointment.
Crooked cops!!
At least they weren’t playing computer games, right Sheriff?
And that my Friend is how you get rid of the people who do not want to join “The GOOD OLE BOY System”
