Missing 2-Year Old Escambia County Boy Found Dead

June 2, 2013

Authorities have located a missing 2-year old missing in the Warrington area since 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hezekiah Brooks was found unresponsive in the backseat floorboard of a car  “after an exhaustive search” of his Hermey Avenue neighborhood, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

First aid was rendered by responding officers and EMS, but all attempts at resuscitation failed. The cause of death is undetermined at this time pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Sunday’s four hour search involved multiple agencies, including the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Escambia County Search and Rescue, the Coast Guard and numerous others. Sheriff David Morgan expressed his gratitude to all that assisted in the search.

Hezekiah is now with Jesus. Mom, Dad, Grandparents, family, you can see him again one day. You can see him when you step onto Heaven’s shore. The thing is, in order to step on that shore, you cannot have any sin. You must be a person who had sin, but had that sin washed away, paid for, cleansed, by Jesus Christ. Jesus loves us all and gave his life so we can be with him and our love ones like Hezekiah. I pray not only for the Holy Spirit to comfort your hearts, but if necessary, convict that heart of your sin, turn(repent) of your sin to Jesus and trust(believe) in him today and you will NEVER be apart from Hezekiah.

How did a 2 year old open a car door? Why was a 2 year outside alone? Who did this car belong to? Praying for this family…

Hello everyone, I am Hezekiah’s grandmother. Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, and sympathy. We have no idea why he ended up in the car, it’s not normally where he liked to go.

Our hearts are very heavy right now and we’d give anything just to have him here with us right now. Please continue to hold up our whole family in prayer as we work through this horrible, horrible ordeal. And give all your babies a hug. Let them know you love them no matter what. Hezzie knew he was loved very much.

    God bless you all.

    Sincerely,

    Debbie Andrews

Was it the family car, a neighbor’s or who? I have a good reason for asking. My 4 year old hid in my car a few months ago and just as I grabbed the phone to call police, I saw him and punished him and now always leave my doors locked because other children in the neighborhood could try it as well. I WAS BLESSED TO FIND MY SON VERY QUICKLY AND AM SO SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF THIS CHILD.

I pray that God will help this family to look to you God in their time of grief. We will never understand why these things happen in life, but thank you for being there for us always. We can always say what we should do or what we would have done, but all we can do now is pray for this family. God is the only judge that matters!

So sad. Car should’ve been checked immediately! Also car doors should be locked at all times! This would’ve prevented the child from getting in the car. Parents should’ve been outside with him. Too young to be out alone. I don’t even let my 6&9 year olds outside alone and we live in the country t the end of a dead end road. Too many things could happen in a matter of minutes. Prayers to the family.
