Animal Control Seizes 18 Dogs Due To ‘Poor Living Conditions’

June 13, 2013

Escambia County Animal Control seized 18 dogs Wednesday afternoon in Century.

Bill Pearson, Escambia County spokesman, said Animal Control was called to the property on Plum Street by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. According to Sena Maddison, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office,  there was concern about “poor living conditions” for the dogs and puppies on the property. There were no charges filed in the case.

Further details were not available late Wednesday afternoon.

From the roadway, animal control officers and the residents were seen loading dogs into an animal control truck. None of the animals appeared malnourished or injured. Neighbors said they believed the animals were cared for adequately, with separate dogs houses, overhead dog runs and proper food and water. Officials said the animals seized did not have proper licenses and proof of vaccinations.

I really don’t think anyone on here is judging animal control..I think we were all just giving our opinions.

Who do you contact about animal abuse? I have been watching a miniature horse that has lost a lot of weight recently and is looking unhealthy.

If animal control came out and removed animals, They had Good reason .Trust in that. I jnow the animal control officer personally and He would not be there for nothing , I mean who needs 18 dogs and cats. and they Don’t Just kill The animals that are taken , They run a different shelter now. so Don’t Judge them until you have all the facts.

If the dogs were being cared for properly, they should have given these people a certain amount of time to get current vaccinations instead of putting the dogs through this!!!!!

    I read it again.
I stand by my original statement.
The deputies were called to the home because “concern about poor living conditions”.
They were seized over problems with licenses and proof of vac’s.
    Per the story published above.
    I agree to disagree.
Thanks for your reporting none the less.

Now, I would think that it is the responsibility of Animal Control to take the best of care of these dogs!!! After all they rescued them! They need to do the right thing! I am hoping since they took them from what they determined poor living conditions, that they will find the dogs loving and proper living conditions. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Please take good care of these fur babies.

    >> How come the term “Seizes 18 Dogs Due To ‘Poor Living Conditions’”
is used in the headline when the article says: “Officials said the animals seized did not have proper licenses and proof of vaccinations.” Since when is no proper licenses or no proof of vaccinations considered poor living conditions?

    Read the story again. :)

The ESCO said the animals were seized due to “poor living conditions” and no further info on those conditions were not available from the ECSO. The licenses and vaccinations part is additional info. The story does not say they were seized due to vaccinations/licenses, but due to “poor living conditions” — that’s why it’s in the headline.

A law must be passed as fast as it can to control these animal hoarders in escambia county. To live next to one as we do is pure hell.Living in a subdivsion with 20-50 dogs and cats is completely crazy!!! The noise and smell is overwhelming .There must be a law passed that puts limits on the number of animals keep based on the size of your property.Where are the rights of the neighbors to have peaceful enjoyment of there property? I am all for adopting from the shelter and having them spayed or neutered and HAVE, but 20-50 cats and dog on a quarter acre lot is outrageous .Animal control comes every few months and removes the dogs and cats, then she gets more from somewhere and they are back again in a few months removing more.Everyone complains about big brother or sister until you need them.Try to remember that they ARE you bothers, sisters, fathers and mothers that are enforcing OUR LAWS ! FOCUS your big bother phobia on which ever leaders you chose and change them at election time.

Bottom line big brother wants you to pay for the priveledgs of having a dog. If not they will just come on your property and take your animals. Big brother needs to back of and busy bodies need to worry about their own backyard.

Might have been someone’s hunting dog.

Really, now! Sounds like steeling to me.

  16. David on June 13th, 2013 7:29 am

Henry ,Please understand, the ESCD is not an animal shelter- it processes the situation to the animal shelter.
Dont think the ESCD hs a nice yard they are going to put them in.
    They take them next door.
    Do not be disillusioned.

What with all the drug deals and shootings and crime the area, Im glad to see this deputy was on the ball and saved these dogs from a caring home. How bout lets look for the church thieves up there. Oh nooo.

Leo didn’t call humane society, crime scene investigator from Pcola did. She was next door where someone had died. What was criminal is how they handled the deceased in front of his wife and family. None of the dogs were in bad health. We don’t have any rights anymore in america

That’s awesome! Someone who has 18 dogs and was caring for them on their own property, gets Animal Control to come pick up the dogs because the LEO is concerned about poor living conditions for the dogs? As apposed to being euthanized by animal control so they have no living conditions? Outstanding.
