Here we go again, I’m new to the Northend and drive that road daily and like all the comments say it’s like a Dragstrip. However over the past 6 months or so I have see surveyors all along Jacks Branch and Hwy 99 and I stopped and asked what was up, well I was told they were measuring for a road widening project, so depending on how our county works we should see some action soon enough.
    Hopefully sooner than later.

1st – You can’t just arbitrarily install speed bumps on a through road, regardless of a few statistically-probable accidents occurring, or the increase in the number of just plain bad drivers. To request such a thing is to admit you want a Nanny State. Probably want to take away our 2d & 4th Amendment Rights, as well.

2d – That curve is notorious for its “Double Dips”. Even @ legal speeds, these tend to bounce & toss a vehicle toward the opposite side of the road, due to simple physics. If the Road Dept. would correct these dangerous flaws, the curve would be less of an issue.

3d – Yes, it’s been needing a re-surfacing & widening for years. Bicyclist LOVE the thrills & adventure. I know, I used to be one.

Lots of people being hurt on Interstate 10 also.
Maybe widening it and make the speed limit 45 would help.

Or maybe we could all start paying attention while Driving.

When people leave Muskogee rd onto Jacks Branch rd they think it is the third turn at a super speedway.Speed bumps for the first mile would stop this…I have seen to many wrecks, people hit while walking, and killed. Why because people are STUPID….But people will continue to be hurt and killed until the drivers slow down….

I was on there yesterday heading out to look for a lost animal. I have never taken that route before and was very paranoid when someone would meet me and be over the center line. I had numerous trucks come up behind me at a high rate of speed and just buzz around and pass me yet I was doing the speed limit. I was actually heading to the Barrineau Park Rd area so I knew I had a ways to go and wasn’t poking along. Widening the road would probably make them feel they could just go faster. Country roads can be dangerous if people aren’t careful. Hwy 97 going to Atmore is another one.

Drive your vehicle, and put all your attention into the task and obey the speed limit. Problem solved. Its not the road its is the human beings.

I live on Jacks Branch Rd, and people drive like this road is Talladega Super Speedway, they have absolutely NO concern for other peoples safety. In the summertime it gets A LOT worse. We need more police patrolling this road and it wouldn’t hurt if the county widened it as well. I never let my children play in my front yard when they were younger and nor do I let my grandchildren now, simply because of the way folks drive on this road. I have personally witnessed people drag racing on this road, something definitely needs to be done.

Jacks branch rd and 99 both need to be widened and repaved. I have traveled these roads for 40 yrs and they r the same now as in the 70’s. Speed is not always a factor in all accidents believe it or not. if you was to widen and straighten some of these roads and it can be done easily then some of the problem would be fixed. Now it would not fix all because you simply can not fix stupid. But in this day and time roads as narrow as these should not exist.

Reflectors are not what is needed. People slowing down is . I have people pass me in double line all the time doing at least over 55mph. It doesn’t matter where I am on that road I do speed limit and get passed like i am sitting still. I watch the cops speed so asking for their help won’t work.

I live off of this road and it has always been a little scary but the biggest problem is speed. If you are going the speed limit you shouldn’t “driff over the center line” or off of the road. People just need to pay attention to their driving but it wouldn’t hurt a thing if the county could widen it.

This is a very , very, dangerous Hwy. all types of accidents occur on this dangerous Hwy., & some fatal accidents. The County should put reflectors all along the edge of roadway , and in the middle to help individuals drive safely. Be very careful on this dangerous Hwy.when you travel. I always take another road.
