Mother Sentenced In Century Drug Case Involving Two Sons

May 9, 2013

A Century mother has been sentenced to jail in connection with a drug raid last year that landed her and two of her sons in jail.

The trio was arrested when the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in February 2012 at a mobile home in the 100 block of West Highway 4, near the Century Care Center nursing home.

The mother, Karen Louise Quinley, 44, pleaded no contest last month to charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and destruction of evidence. This week, Judge Gary Bergosh sentenced Quinley to 200 days in the county jail. Once released, she will be on probation for 36 months and her driver’s license will be suspended for two years.  She was also ordered to pay $2,511.60 in fines and costs, including $1,843.60 to cover the investigative costs of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Her son, 19-year old Cortez Rasheen Davison, pleaded no contest to possession of drug paraphernalia last month. He was found guilty by Bergosh and sentenced to 12 months probation.

Last year, 20-year old Nakeetric Devonte Davison pleaded no contest and adjudication was withheld on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced by Judge  Gary Bergosh to 180 days in the county jail, with credit for three days served to be followed by 180 days probation. He has since completed his jail sentence.

Search Warrant Executed

After gaining entry to the mobile home, deputies reported finding Quinley in her bedroom. Quinley told deputies that she had tried to throw crack cocaine out of her bedroom window when she heard them at the door, but she was unable to get a window to open.

Nakeetric Davison told deputies that everything in his bedroom belonged to him, including the marijuana located by deputies. When asked by deputies if he sells marijuana, Nakeetric Davison replied “Yeah, I don’t have a job”, according to an arrest report.

In Nakeetric Davison’s room, narcotics officers reported finding items that included 417.6 grams pre-packaged marijuana under his bed in a Pringles can, a cookie jar and a plastic container, cash and “owe sheets” on the floor.

Cortez Davison, according to his arrest report, identified his bedroom but refused to answer further questions, instead asking for an attorney.

The February 2012 raid was not the first time the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit  targeted alleged drug activity at the trailer. No one was home as officers executed a search warrant at the same mobile home in June 2010, finding a stem of marijuana in a bedroom, crack cocaine on the kitchen table, a razor blade with cocaine residue, a marijuana cigarette and digital scales during their search, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Quinley was arrested on multiple charges following the 2010 search, but charges against her were later dropped due to insufficient evidence since she was not at home at the time of the raid.

come, child, see if you see any hatred here.
a bit of disapproval for evil acts
a sense of injustice at being blamed for the misdeeds of others.
and surely most are praying the Lord deals righteously here
    and for repentence

    David for better people

    gina,
The fun thing is that the defenders don’t just excuse the parental guidance which guided the adult men/children toward a life of crime and stunted opportunities, they ATTACK those who condemn the decision to commit such crimes. If he lived around here, they’d attack those who bad-mouthed Castro for kidnapping, rape and murder.
They attack everyone who didn’t give a drug dealer a free base of operations.
They attack those who don’t give them tax-payer funded public housing.
They attack those who don’t hire known criminals over honest people.
They accuse everybody else of doing the same thing.
They assure you Jesus doesn’t care about repeated criminal acts and total lack of repentance, that you should ignore the safety of others and take them to your bosom.
They think Judge Bergosh is too judgemental and punitive.

    David for discouraging crime
    or enjoying its enablers

People really need to start preacing to the criminals of society, if you are so concerned with their well being, and stop judging those that have a different opinion than they do. How dare people judge me for seeing the truth about society. These people dealt poison to our children, not just once but numerous times. Just because you are having a rough time in life does not give you the right to prey on others. Yes,we all make mistakes but we learn from those mistakes and don’t continue repeating them for years. The ones I feel sorry for are the children who grew up in a house with a drug dealing mother
You want us to feel bad? Then feel bad for the innocents not the predators!

This is not about citizens casting judgment. Of course people make mistakes. I am so tired of people making excuses for those who blatantly break the law. Even middle schoolers know that drugs are against the law. Most everyone has encountered trials and tribulations in their lives. Cry me a river. Most people try to do the right thing. Many struggle in minimum wage or less and don’t steal or deal drugs. This woman helped her sons commit crimes. Stop making excuses for lazy criminals trying to make a quick buck. They are destroying Our community and families. Focus on teaching people to make an honest living and stop trying to justify criminal activities!

I often read the comments of the judgmental people who sit back and pass judgement on others, well guess what? None are perfect and yes a crime was commited and they will pay for the crimes commited! But let me invite you perfect people to cast the first stone if without sin! Just like I thought she want have to dodge stones cause NOT 1 can cast a stone! I see many who get out of jail after they make a mistake and because they have a record their not able to obtain a job nor live in government housing due to their past! It’s easy to say throw the book at them but I bet NOT 1 of you would of offered a place for them to live nor a hot meal if they were hungry! If you did NOTHING to help a person then shut up! Nobody knows why they did what they did! If there is an addition then did you maybe offer them assistance? I for one work VERY hard for every penny but I will never say what I want do to fed my babies! Until there is change and true rehabilitation this is what we will continue to see! I know people personally who made a BAD choice and here it is 15 years later and their not able to get a decent job because of it! They go to jail for their given sentence but they pay for the rest of their life! I don’t think it’s fair at all! I’ve never been in their shoes but I’m human and I’m subject to make bad choices but people do change and even after the change and 10-20 years later they are still denied employment! Stop judging and start praying asking God to help his people and yourself cause if Jesus came back today you would burst Hell wide open for judging your sisters and brother but did nothing to help them #SAD

If for some god forsaken reason I end up in Jail I sure do hope that Bergosh is my judge. He seems to be pretty soft on everyone.

We need to get rid of Bergosh! I wonder what the sentencing guidelines are for these charges. 200 days in the county jail doesn’t seem like enough punishment – especially since this family is known to have been dealing drugs in the past! I highly doubt this will be their last time…plus, they’re going to have to raise the money somehow to pay the restitution!

Just a slap on the hand… did they get a kiss too.
And deputies put their lives on the line for this…..
