Johnie Douglas Lowry, a life-long resident of Jay, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Tuesday, May 7, 2013. He was born January 17,1937, in Jay. He attended Cornerstone Christian Church in Jay. He was a dedicated employee at Monsanto Corporation for 35 years. After retirement John and Juanita enjoyed many years at their lake house on Weiss Lake in North Alabama. He was talented in many aspects of life, always looking forward to a new project. He loved fishing , gardening and traveling. John devoted much of his time and energy to his grandchildren who he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.H. Lowry Sr. and Cassie Morris Lowry; brothers, Clifton Lowry Sr. and Jesse B. “Boss” Lowry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Juanita G. Lowry; daughters; Cathy (Daniel) Golden, Donna Kay (Joe) McCurdy, Misty (Derek) Bray; grandchildren, Ciara, Caristyn, and John Daniel Golden; Laura (Lance) Bird, Madison McCurdy; Jordan and Makenzie Bray; brothers, H.H. Jr. (Betty) Lowry, Nathan(Glenda) Lowry, Sammy (Jeanette) Lowry, Curt (Lavelle) Lowry, Travis (Charlotte) Lowry, Frank (Melinda) Lowry; sisters, Martha (Bobby) Boutwell, Sandra Holt, Elaine (Tim) Fendley, Mary (Sammy) Beasley, Debbie (David) Walther and sister-in-law’s, Jeanette Salter Lowry and Doris Lowry.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Christian Church in Jay,with Bro. Fredrick Barrow and Bro. Howard Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery in Jay.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Cornerstone Christian Church.

Active pallbearers will be Joe McCurdy, Derek Bray, John Daniel Golden, Lance Bird, David Walther and Henry Lowry.

Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, sisters and nephew, Clifton Lowry Jr.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers at Century Care Center who so diligently cared for our loved one.
