Florida Executes Man For 1990 Rape And Murder
May 30, 2013
Convicted murderer Elmer Leon Carroll was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke, the Department of Corrections announced.
Earlier in the day the U.S. Supreme Court had rejected a last-ditch attempt for a stay of the death warrant that had been signed April 17 by Gov. Rick Scott. Carroll, 56, was convicted in the 1990 rape and murder of 10-year-old Christine McGowan after breaking into her Apopka home.
He was the first of three death row inmates in Florida – William Van Poyck and Marshall Lee Gore are the others – scheduled for lethal injection within the next six weeks.

REGARDING:
“Why would Gov Scott sign a “stay of death” warrant?”
He wouldn’t. Let’s read the sentence together very carefully. “Earlier in the day the U.S. Supreme Court had rejected a last-ditch attempt for a stay of the death warrant that had been signed April 17 by Gov. Rick Scott.“
Who signed the death warrant? Governor Scott did.
Who was asked to stop him? The United States Supreme Court was.
Why take so long? Constitutionally guaranteed right to appeal takes a while. Some lawyers and judges draw out the appeals process as a means of delaying justice. Most likely some governors were squeamish about killing killers so they delayed. Governor Scott didn’t seem to see any reason to delay. The Supreme Court didn’t seem to see any reason to delay further so they let Governor Scott carry out his duty.
David for safe children
or avenged ones
Why would Gov Scott sign a “stay of death” warrant?
This man is sick for raping and murdering a 10 y/o girl. His “stay of death” shouldn’t have taken this long….
Life sucks . . . THEN you die!
@hmmm…
That is easy to explain. Liberal democrats. Duh! :-/
Kathy,
I doubt he cared what we wanted or he would’ve never hurt that child in the first place.
That reminds me, in cases like this, the pictures of the victims might be in order.
I dont understand why it takes so long for them to be put to death maybe if when their proven guilty they could be put down right away our crime rate on such would start dropping.
This character lived 23 years longer than his victim. That’s not justice.
Sick man! He should of been put to death in 1990 and saved us a lot of $$$
