ECSO Recovers Two Dozen Stolen Highway Signs

May 30, 2013

Deputies have recovered about two dozen highway signs believed to have been stolen from the North Escambia area.

The signs — everything from speed limit signs, to a CR 99 sign, to bridge weight limit, railroad crossing and stop signs — were seized from a home near Walnut Hill after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office received a tip.

An arrest is expected in the case, according to investigators.

Wednesday, the signs were returned to the Escambia County Road Department and other agencies.

I did report it for all you that want to criticize. And the officer also said there were other calls that came in about the signs in the shed

Their made out of Aluminum, I knew a scrap guy that was knocking them down with his truck and selling them to Wise, he claimed he had some contract with a lawn care co. removing them from the roadway at the Navy Base, sounded like a lie back then as well.

I was given a stop sign by the county many (almost 30) years ago when I was a boy scout. I did a large service project with the road department and it involved signs. The county thanked me by giving me a nice letter and a old stop sign. I wish mine looked as nice as the ones this guy has. I am guessing there is not a law pertaining to possession of signs as you can buy them on ebay and other places. like I said I have one the county gave me.

Good comment Freda and Ben . I am wondering the same thing you see stolen signs and go gossip amongst each other at church. Glad it was signs that your willing to turn a blind eye to wonder what would be serious enough for you to call the law. And brittani they should hide it better they shouldn’t steal

  5. Maybe someone did call! on May 30th, 2013 6:47 pm

Those of you wondering why nobody called the police. It says in the article they received a tip. Maybe someone did call. I know 2 that did.

    Loved everyone’s “SIGN IN”. Thanks!

Several of you knew the signs were there and you didn’t call the police? Why Not? There are cases where stop signs have been taken and then someone runs it and gets killed. It’s not a game or a joke. Not to mention the cost that WE pay to have new ones made. If you knew the signs were there and you didn’t call then you are just as guilty as the person that took them.

I remember several years ago a stop sigh was stolen in Texas. A car went thru and it killed several young adults. The kids that stole the sigh went to prison.

You saw stolen highway signs and you’re glad somebody finally reported it?
What in the world is wrong with you?

  10. Roger on May 30th, 2013 1:12 pm

My question is why someone would do this. What’s the point?

  11. brittanie on May 30th, 2013 12:39 pm

Glad they finally got caught . You could see the signs in the shed every time you went by. Next time hide them a little better haha!!!

@MNON, signs was written by Les Emmerson and originally released by the Five Man Electrical Band back in 1971, of which Mr Emmerson performed lead vocals and guitar. I was in 7th grade at the time.

Tesla released their cover back in 1990 and an excellent one at that. Rock On! MNON.

Perhaps there is a defense strategy in the lyrics of the song, however I would not advise singing it to the judge.

Stealing “STOP” signs could result in an innocent person’s injury or death. I hope they throw the book at the culprit(s). Five years in correction sounds about right.

Our neighborhood is missing its neighborhood watch sign. I wonder if that turned up?

I always wanted one with the deer warning, but knew better.

Maybe the thief was a broker, a sort of dealer in stolen artworks, or a compulsive idiot.

Hey Wow this is crazy I saw this dude a few weeks ago. But I thought he worked with the signs cause he had so many. Weirdo who stills signs like that.
