Woman Accidentally Shot By Father In Century

May 21, 2013

A 38-year old woman was accidentally shot by her father Monday in Century.

Witnesses told deputies that the father had .22 caliber weapon inside the house and was headed outside  to shoot “a varmit” in the family’s yard. The woman reportedly tried to take the weapon from her father, believing it was not loaded, when it fired accidentally inside the home, striking her in the lower chest or upper abdomen. Her injury was not believed to be life threatening.

The woman was transported by ambulance to the Escambia County EMS Post in Century and then airlifted to a Pensacola hospital by LifeFlight.

The shooting is under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. No charges are expected to be filed.

    ANSWERING:
    “Should I be flattered???”

    Yes, you should.

“As far as your question “Can’t we do both?” Can you?”

    Obviously.
Why else do you think the good Lord let her live?
    My prayers were answered.

“Another thing, since “Lives matter more” you should show some concern for a life FIRST.”

    Second too.

Once the initial threat to life is dealt with, we go after the second threat, in this case careless handling of weapons.
After all, many have been shot by carelessness since this event.
My prayers couldn’t save all of them from themselves, though.
Maybe my words can save a few.

    David for blessed children

Taking a break from work to look on NE.com and guess who gives me the pleasure of directing a comment to me? Should I be flattered???

@David Huie Green, since I seemed to have stepped on your toes the hardest, I will give you the pleasure of responding back. I don’t gripe and by the way I haven’t that word since my grandparents passed, lol. I simply voiced my opinion just like you seem to do on just about any and everything on NE.com. As far as your question “Can’t we do both?” Can you?. Another thing, since “Lives matter more” you should show some concern for a life FIRST.

Toni for sensitive gun owners….oh yea and praying for sensitive gun owners.

    Praying For Her,
Nope, nobody gonna stop talking about firearms; they have long been part of the national conversation and their safe usage is more important than the sensitive feelings of people who misuse them. Lives matter more.

Further, you seem to be imagining rumors. Eschew paranoia.

David praying for physical, mental, emotional health

    Toni,
Can’t we do both? Why do you feel compelled to gripe at those who would try to stop it from happening again?
David for care now and later

You know some you people who make comments on here keep me shaking my head. There was a young lady injured and some of you would rather focus on arguing about gun control rather than praying or wishing for her full recovery. We know “GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE”.

@Gulf Flyer, It seems more people need to have more sympathy for other people also.

My question is why did the grand-daughter think it necessary to try and stop her grandfather from going outside to “shoot a varmint”?

Why is a firearm accident always the gun’s fault while automobile accidents are always the driver’s fault. Both the gun and the automobile can sit there and rust away without a person being involved. As Shakespeare once said “nothing is wrong but that people make it so!”

    SAFETY TIPS:

    Assume all guns are loaded.
    Never play with any weapon.
Teach your children to teach their children.

  14. cygie on May 21st, 2013 6:06 am

Always act as if a firearm is loaded. ALWAYS!

The Doer is right. I concur.

  16. Gulf Flyer on May 20th, 2013 10:08 pm

“say no to weapons of any sort.” Why in the world would anyone make a comment such as this. So it’s the gun’s fault that someone got shot while attempting to disarm somone with a loaded gun??
Ignorance is why we’re having the gun debates we’re having today.
Seems like more people need to be educated regarding firearms.

  17. Jarrod on May 20th, 2013 9:05 pm

Prayers go out to this family, hope everything goes well.

  18. The Doer on May 20th, 2013 8:59 pm

    Dear Women of God,
I’m sorry this has occurred in your family, and I hope your cousin is okay, but please realize that weapons are not the enemy here. Please don’t assume that all weapons are bad just because a weapon was used in this accident.
Weapons are only bad when laws are not followed. Most legitimate gun owners follow the laws. Again, I hope your relative recovers quickly.

  19. Women Of God on May 20th, 2013 7:54 pm

This is my family and i pray to GOD that everything will be ok. Please lord give my cousin a chance at living a new life and being there for her three children. Let this be a lesson for everyone that tries to come in contact with anyone that has a weapon of some kind in there hand. Life is too short so say no to weapons of any sort. Uncle max at this time just pray that your daughter pull through this terriable incident. And to my family be strong and know at this point a serious pray is needed for our family. Love you guys:) :) :)
